Hood latch cable

    Took my new 2020 4Runner for its first maintenance appointment at 5000 miles. The technician tells me that the cable for the hood latch has stretched and needs to be replaced anybody have or heard of this problem before. I've open the hood one time

    Dang. You must have opened the hood latch that one time with a cheater pipe...!

    JK. That's ridiculous...I'm guessing they're replacing said cable under warranty...?

    No, they say it happened outside their facility of course.

    Almost everything under warranty happens outside of their facility, it is a safety item and they should replace it under warranty.

    Warranty Time! 5000 miles, and they don't want to honor Toyota warranty? What dealership? I want to know so when I'm traveling around we'll stay away from that one.

    So, I thought I'd update this situation. After NO help from the dealership, I decided to pop the hood and check things out. Found the latch cable, traced it all the way to the release handle. In 5 minutes had it back where it belongs and it works fine. It seems the factory didn't have it quite seated so it popped out the first time it was used. I notified the dealership that if their service department couldn't see this, that's not good, and I will not be coming back for any more service.

    That’s just bad customer service. It’s a brand new vehicle with low miles, shouldn’t be having those issues. Regardless of where it happened, a good dealer would’ve taken care of it without a problem.

    That's the most stupid answer I've ever heard from a dealer service dept. What do they expect - you buy your truck then leave it on their lot, so that if any warranty issues happen, it occurs 'at their facility'? Idiots.

    I guess you should have been wary when the first moron told you the cable "stretched" (on a brand new truck) on that first maintenance visit. They were too inept or lazy to figure it out like you did.
