My first of many stoopid questions, most likely. I did a search and nada, also scrolled through a couple pages of posts.

Wife drives the 4R and noticed the light on. Bless her, she pulled out the manual and read up what was there. I checked pressure and all were fine. Can/will cold temps (11 degrees) set it off. What else should I look for?

I’ve had cold temps set it off before, but my tire pressure had dropped a bit with the temps. All tires were down. It was not a TPMS malfunction. I’d fill to your desired pressure and keep watch. I wish our 4Runners displayed individual tire pressure like the Tacomas. That is a nice feature.

If I’m not mistaken the spare also has TPMS so don’t forget to check that.

on some 4runners the spare does have the press sensor.. my 2016 sr5 premium does not,, it is a steel rim , not part of the tire rotations. I THINK if you have an alloy wheel as a spare, that is part of tire rotation so it may have the sensor in it...

well every year I drop spare check air pressure and wash the wheel/tire and lube the crank box.. IMO this should be done just in case you need to do tire change ..

    To be determined
Could also be a bad sensor or one broken off inside the wheel.. had one break on my Tacoma

I would full tires to desired pressure, reset the light, and see if it comes back. My guess would be that you'll be good to go (unless it's the spare).

In my Honda cold weather used to set it off. I've also had good luck over filling each tire maybe by five pounds then lowering to the correct pressure may reset it.

I just purchased a 2018 SR5 Premium with 39k miles. Dealer installed new tires prior to my delivery. I test drove the vehicle for about 10 miles and everything was fine. On the way home, TPMS light flashed then stays on. Today I checked and set all (including spare) to 36 lbs of air pressure. Light still comes on.

Any known issues or how to reset the light?

SR5 and TE don't have TPMS in spare. I would assume LE doesn't but I have no experience with that model.

Isn't it possible that they didn't reset the system after installing tires and he just needs to reset it now at the current pressures? It could just be one tire that's out of the previously set parameters.

I think there's a chance that a simple reset would solve the problem.

Pretty sure if it flashes and then stays on sensor is not communicating.

Mine is like that 24/7 I didn't put the TPMS back when I changed rims/tires.

This is an old thread, but I came to this when I was facing the same issue while googling.

Here's what I found, which hopefully helps someone in the future.

On my 15' LE - the system checks for FIVE wheels for the TPMS. I switched out the stock 20s on the LE for some 17s which had TPMS on them, the spare 17 tire that I replaced the 20 spare didn't, and I faced the same issue. TPMS flashing for about a minute, then going solid. Went to discount tire and added a TPMS to the spare, and then reset it all and that fixed it.

Looks like in some models the system does need all 5 tpms setup.
