Yes, a very small percentage of people who buy one of the most popular tires available is still a lot of people.

I'm just not sure how so many people are able to drive all over the place every day with these tires if there anywhere near as terrible as you claim.

I can only conclude that the problem was with your driving habits, not the tires.

    I haven't made up anything.

You're the one here shitting all over a product that is consistently rated very high by (the majority of) it's users.

And then you claim that we all don't know any better, which is insulting. Now, I don't care because I know that it's not true.

But, it's a little rude to claim that people you don't even know are basically clueless just because you don't agree with them.

And, what does bother me is you claiming that I've made things up.

So far you've implied if someone thinks they aren't the best A/T it's because they don't leave pavement (while editing it to then claim AT3s make a strong case for being better and then turning it into a bang for your buck comparison), you've implied my first hand disappointment in the tires was copy and pasting the complaints everyone else and that I must not have actually used them, you've flat out questioned if I'm sure I actually owned them, you've implied that I claim they are dangerous to use, and you've concluded that it must be that I don't know how to drive. You're the one talking up a product that many people have the same bad experience with. "it's a little rude to claim that people you don't even know are basically clueless just because you don't agree with them." - uh, pot meet kettle?

Sounds like a bit of a stretch of your imagination. What I said was that there were definitely better options for people who don't off-road. Notice how I said "for MY uses," meaning specifically to me.

Then, instead of of just explaining your point of view, you said:

A little over the top in my opinion. I know that every tire has weaknesses. Just because other tires are better in wet conditions doesn't mean that these are "poor." ANY aggressive AT is going to be worse in the rain than an all season.

YOU are the one who claimed that people who like the tires "don't know any better." All I've said is that it's foolish to claim something is "terrible" just because you found something you like better.

Yes, because the vast majority of users are happy with them. Look around. K02's are consistently ranked as high or higher than the Ridge Grapplers.

Hmmm, I have the "C" rated KO2's and have very similar results to @Thatbassguy. These tires have been great. However i am also going to try out the AT3W's next if these KO2's ever decide to wear out.

That was a picture I found googling off-road wheels plasti-dipped. So, not even sure which tires that truck has.

I had KO2's for 29K miles, and thought they were very good in most situations. I know people who have run them to ridiculously high mileage and been very happy as well.

But, a handful of folks have had bad experiences with them as well. I don't know what to make of it, really.

There are a ton of really good AT tires on the market right now. A handful seem to stand out for one reason or another. This is something worth researching on Discounttire.com or Tirerack.com and looking at the average user reviews of a tire and decide which is best for you.

I’m a big fan of the off road wheels for a lot of reasons. I run KO2s as a summer on/off road tire. They’re excellent, imho. Quiet, for a luggy tire, great at high speed, and a nice coarse tread for trails and mud. Add to that their classic look, and you can’t go wrong - white letter out for a vintage look.
But I run black steelies with winter tires for 5 months and they’re ok. But I’m glad to get them off in the spring. They look pretty dull and generic compared to the summer set up.

    I don't understand the hate for KO2. My SR5 got KO2 265/70R17, TRD ORP got KO2 285/70R17 and before 285s I got KO2 275/70R17.
My Limited got Falken Wildpeaks because KO2 doesn't have non LT tires. So I got P rated Falken Wildpeaks for the Limited. (Limited is our city vehicle)

I ran AT TA/KO's on my DII, great tire. Aired down they were monsters in the snow. Running AT II in the Runner, and been very pleased. Course, it's the desert, so YMMV

I imagine they’d look great. But if I do it, I’m going to buy a second set and bring them to the local powder coating company and have them done with a more permanent covering.

Pinstripes, lots of em. Plus a couple dents.

    I had E-Rated KO1's on my Frontier.

They were heavy & the ride on washboard roads was horrible. The tread picked up rocks that were kicked out at vehicles following me on the highway. I never had any issues with them in rain but they were absolutely horrible on ice. Though most tires probably would've been.

Pluses - I never had a tire puncture or sidewall cuts on my KO1's. No issues with rain.
Anyone looking at them knew there were a $1000+ set of tires.

I actually had a Nissan service tech at dealership try to steal them from me. He went so far as to take an oily rag and wipe the inside 1/3 of the tread and claimed my brand new tires were rubbing. He previously mentioned he also had a Frontier and how much he liked my tires. I told him to fuck off. It was so obvious what he was doing, by trying to get me to buy a new set of tires, so he could grab my "old" ones.

I still have my Frontier and it wears a set of Falken Wildpeak AT3W's.

On my 4Runner, with 30k miles on SL OEM size Falken Wildpeak AT3W's - I've had a tire puncture, sidewall cuts, and a tread block torn off. I've taken more difficult trails with it though, vs the Frontier.

The Falkens being closer to stock in weight, MPG's have been great - till I added all this armor. Performance has been fantastic off road. They don't pick up rocks. Work great in the mud and work fine on muddy, rocky - hill climbs. Snow / Ice - cant say for certain. Haven only had 2 experiences in/on both. They were OK but not fantastic.

Next set of taller heavier tires - probably wont be Falkens. The taller sizes (285 or 255) are just as heavy / pricey as the competition.
E-rated KO2's are in the running. E-rated Ridge Grapplers are also being considered.

Ill admit, they do have questionable traction on wet pavement. They're not a dedicated street tire. But whenever my current set eventually wears out, im going with the ko2s again. They're pretty good at most things and you can curb check the shit out of them all day and never get a flat. Also I run the C rated, I had the Es on my tacoma and they were like dump truck tires and knocked 2mpg off my already bad milage

I’m in Southern California so I think it’s gonna be on pavement mostly. But I do need something that’s good in the rain as safety is top priority over looks.

Had them for 60k miles on my work Tahoe.

    The good:
    - Amazing tread life. I swear they could have gone easily to 80K with zero issue.
    - Performed well on snow / ice.
    - Good looking tire.

    The bad:
    - Extremely loud, and only got louder as mileage went up.
    - Hard to balance. Could never fully get rid of various speed shimmies. Even had rims checked to make sure they weren’t the culprit.
    - Poor wet weather traction. Clover style on/off ramps would get interesting. Could step rear out relatively easy.

I know lots of folks have them, and love them. I personally will not have them on any of my personal vehicles. Stock Nittos on my 4R Pro have been great, and love the Cooper AT3 XLT’s on my Tundra.

    Good luck with your choice!

    I'm with Oldtoyotaguy. KO2's for 3 seasons.
I just ordered 4 spare wheels (toyota brand even) and they'll get studded Cooper Snow Claws....kinda
wish I'd had them on for the last 4 days since we've had a blizzard and heavy ice storm but the KO2's did fine.
We use KO2's on our campervan and have taken it many places a campervan shouldn't have gone. the BFGs are
just tried and proven to us.
After I picked up the 4R last week the first stop was my tire store and a mistake was made by me. I let them put on
Cooper AT3 LT's. I corrected that the next day with a return trip to the store for the KO2's.

What size and load range? I'm just curious because mine were fairly quiet, and I never had balancing issues. Did you rotate every 5K miles?

Mine have treated me well, so I have nothing to complain about. The first go at balancing them wasn’t good, but after rebalancing them, they’ve been vibration/shimmy free. In CO, there aren’t a ton of wet weather days, so I haven’t had any issues there, either. My drive back from NY this past summer, we drove through a heavy downpour for 1/2 of the drive westward (it rained from northern NY until we stopped in Peru, IL), and they handled it and the standing water on the highway just fine.

I had K02s on the Tacoma, and now on the 4Runner. I might switch it up for my next set, but given they’ve been a reliable tire for me overall, I don’t have a burning need to try something else. I have 275s in E load.
