Happy Holidays everyone. Took my 2004 4Gen 4Runner to the shop yesterday because the check engine light was on and they told me my engine needs to be replaced??? Looking for some guidance for a novice car guy. The mechanic said that the car had overheated a few times, the head gasket is blown and the radiator is leaking? I was a bit surprised because I do service the car on a regular basis. I have an OBD scanner arriving today so I'll have more info if needed. I'd like to keep the car and replace the engine. Live in Orange County, CA but willing to look outside the area for a reliable mechanic. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have a 2005 with 150,000 miles. Body is still 100% rust free. Rides VG still.

Good luck with finding a good V6 for your 4runner. Junkyards should have a few low mileage, but I have no experience in looking or installing.

I never had a check engine lite come on in my 4runner in 15 years and 150,000 miles of driving?

Be great if you could check the engine with a scanner.
