But I am super excited to be in the 4Runner community.

1 week with my 4Runner. Haven’t done anything other then tint and LED lights inside. Looking to go camping in it soon

Any beginner mods that you guys recommend?

Well, I didn’t want to say that, but it helps to get the feel of things, unless of course you are already an avid wheeler. Then let the balls be out.

I was going to wait for the bronco but the 4Runner was the long term winner.

Realized I only wanted it to remove the doors and I will be just fine without it

Welcome -- great looking rig. I think most folks here would recommend tires first. There are several that perform much better than OEM, and it's also an opportunity to upsize a bit for extra ground clearance / off road ability without more expensive mods.

I'm eyeing the Toyo AT3 for mine, though it's not pressing since I'm driving so little these days. A lot of people seem to like the appearance and performance of Falken Wildpeaks, but I've seen several complain about trouble balancing them (maybe a quality control issue at Falken?). Another popular option seems to be Goodyear Duratrac. Obv, it depends on how you'd be using the truck and conditions where you live. If you're doing 99% paved roads I'd consider the Michelin Defender.

Welcome to the forums. Have fun with your new 4Runner! One mod I've been reading about is this: https://pedalcommander.com/products...ta~md_4runner~rk_trd-off-road-premium~qj_4-0l. Seems they're extremely popular and a very simple mod.

I was the same way. I've always loved 4Runners, so, one was always my backup plan if anything ever caused me to not want the Bronco anymore. Well, Ford ended up killing any desire for a '21MY Bronco I had, so, I started really looking into 4Runners and realized that the Off-Road Premium had pretty much everything I wanted right off the bat. Called my local dealership and got an order placed for a Nautical Blue ORP w/KDSS.

Maybe in '22 or '23 Ford might actually have something to show instead of everything being "Stay tuned!" or "Late delivery". I'll take a look at them then.

Welcome to the forum from Wisconsin!

Tires! The OEM tires are fine for the street, but not much good in the dirt. There are tons of great AT options out there.

Other mods will depend on where you're exploring. If you're going to play in the rocks, armor should be a priority. Otherwise, just use it and you'll figure out what you need as you go.

The 2019 Limited I tested came with Yokohama Geolanders, which have ok test results and reviews. But the 2020 that I bought came with Bridgestone Dueler H/T, which are abysmal. Here are the user ratings based on more than 16 million miles of experience. I don't really trust them in the rain, let alone for snow etc. There's a version of the Dueler called the Alenza that has quite good reviews, but of course Toyota didn't spec them

    Screen Shot 2020-12-20 at 1.17.46 PM.jpg

Now here are the reviews for the Michelin Defender LTX. (The ratings for the Alenza are almost as good)

Which Geolanders? I had great luck with the HT and AT on my previous 4runner. Both excellent tires in their own way!

As I recall, they were the Geolandar G96B. The GO56 also comes in that size and seems to have similar reviews. Again, decent options for an OEM tire on a vehicle meant primarily for non-performance road use in a range of weather conditions. I don't expect Toyota to spend the $ putting something like the Michelin Defenders on there. But the Duelers they chose -- I'm not sure those tires should even be legal

Haha! Yeah, if these came with Geolanders, I wouldn't have been in such a hurry to get rid of the OEM tires. I feel the same about the Dunlops as you do about the Duelers. I almost lost it on the freeway on the 2nd or 3rd week (snow), and decided to get rid of them.

I hope to move far into the snow belt at some point, so will have to decide then what to do. I'd be tempted to try the Toyo AT3 year round, but could also do Blizzaks year round or maybe even Defenders on the stock wheels and Blizzaks on a set of winter rims. That would obv be best overall, just really pricey. It's going to depend on what other cars if any are in my stable at that time.

If I go for new tires before the move, it will be tough to choose between the AT3 and the Defender. Being realistic given 99% of my use for the truck, the Defender is prob the smarter choice. Those should have better road manners and MPG (eg they weigh less than the ATs)

The new Pirelli is supposed to be a pretty good tire.

Thank you so much, that was I was looking at next. Maybe a spacer on the front, and some bigger all terrain tires. I appreciate you sending me recommendations, very helpful

Well I took it out for the fist time and did pretty well stock haha. Went with my family to Holy Jim a local spot and it was pretty rocky. I didnt have any problem but some beefier and taller tires would of helped I think I hit a Little Rock on bottom front but no damage. And a branch side wiped my right side, but I think it will buff out. So tires for sure are the next mod.

But wow so much better then the V4 Taco I was leasing.
