    Hi all,
I purchased a remote start kit from 12volt Solutions on Black Friday based on positive reviews and apparent ease of install. It doesn't look difficult but there are missing instructions related to a piece of their wiring harness involving TPMS and some potential wire splicing. I've tried contacting them three different ways in the last 2 weeks but only recieve messages regarding how busy they are. Fair enough, but I'm in Canada and it's freaking cold here right now so I'd really like to get this thing in.

So, anyone here have experience installing this in a 2019 SR5 with key-start ignition? Everything else looks really easy but since the TPMS bit appears to involve cutting a wire, I want to be sure I get it right.

BTW I also got their long range remotes so I won't use the factory key to remote start. Not sure if that makes a difference.

    Thanks!

    Welcome to the forum!
I just purchased the exact same kit you have & this is the first I have heard on splicing.
Let me find you a link.
    One second,
    Ryan.

I thought it was no-splice too, which was one of the big selling points.

One of the wiring harnesses included in the box has a connector labelled TPMS. There is also a pigtail (also labelled TPMS) which clearly plugs into that connector with two wires coming out of it that have crimp connectors on the ends, ready to crimp onto what I assume would be the cut ends of the factory TPMS wire. I can do that if needs be, but not without knowing which wire to cut or what end of the pigtail goes where.

When you get the package, you also get links to instructional videos. You're are supposed to watch the "harness overview" video before doing anything else, but my link leads to a "coming soon" image. Not helpful.

I watched everything else and read all documentation but found no mention of TPMS. Everything else really does look simple.

Maybe I don't even need the TPMS pigtail but why include it and not mention it? 20201215_152654.jpg 20201215_152735.jpg

I see no reason why a remote start would need TPMS info. Is that a feature of the App version I wonder?
Hopefully someone who has done this will chime in!
    I will be keeping up,
    Ryan

Well. I just went ahead and put it in today. I skipped the TPMS bit and everything seems to work. No weird warning lights or anything.

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

"15 minute installation" is a stretch. Sure, maybe just to get everything plugged in and programmed, but easily the most time consuming part is putting everything back together. The wire harnesses are pretty chunky so finding space to zip-tie all of that, plus the module, into the dash so the panels reattach cleanly is a bit of a job. Not too bad though.

I also bought the long range remote kit so I had to run the antenna wire around the side curtain airbag which took some time.

Anyway, seems like I'm good now. Hopefully your install goes well.

Thanks for the good information. What was you total time to install? I don't like working around airbags. I imagine that you take the battery of for the install? Also, what programming was required?
I should look for a video... I am sure there is one out there!
    Thanks,
    Ryan

When you get your kit you'll get access to vehicle-specific videos that run through everything, and they're pretty good. They even show how to take apart the required pieces of your dash. I watched a couple of videos on YouTube by just regular dudes who bought this kit but they are not awesome (missing steps and whatnot) so don't use third-party videos as definitive instructions.

Unless you got the long range remotes, you don't have to mess with airbags and even then it's just fishing the antenna behind the actual airbag in the A pillar, not as big a deal as it sounds. Just finicky. No need to disconnect the battery either since you're just plugging/unplugging connectors.

Took me about an hour but that includes the long range remote install, and taking the dash apart a 2nd time because I had to unplug/reconnect the antenna as the 2way remote stopped working. The remotes seem to be a little flaky but working now. Hopefully they stay working. Again, if you don't have those then your install will be quicker.

    Good luck!

I did also get the long range kit. Thanks for letting me know. It sucks to hear about the quality of the remotes...

Yeah it's just weird. Plugged in the antenna and programmed the remotes, everything was fine, unplugged to install the antenna properly and pack everything away, and the 2way remote stopped being 2way. It still started the car but got no feedback.

Tore into the dash again, unplugged the antenna from the module, plugged it back in, heard some relays click in the module, and got 2way back. BUT, while it was now reporting that the car was running, when I turned the car off with the same remote, the light on the remote (which informs you the car is running) kept flashing even though the engine was off. So I turned on the car with the key, turned off with the key, and the remote made the "car off" sound and stopped flashing. Now it works perfectly but I kinda expect it to go "out of sync" again at some point. Hopefully it doesn't.

So if you have this kind of issue, try unplugging the antenna and plugging it back in but don't make my mistake. Unplug the windshield end before tearing back into the dash and unplugging from the module. Might save you a bunch of work.
