Because everyone should always be calloused and over cautious, and relive the horrors of our lives constantly without moving on? I really don't understand this statement.

It would be one thing if there was serious injury or death involved; but come on. Someone said "pain in the ass" and he added "literally" since it was a "rear end" accident. It's not like harm or offence was implied, geesh.

And before you turn this around on me (which I'm sure is coming); I've been in two very serious accidents, one in which I had to be cut out of the vehicle. I was stopped, person came flying through the intersection, tried to make the turn at speed, lost control and slammed into me(he had been shot and was trying to drive himself to the hospital)... on a stretcher, covered in blood and with a mild concussion and some broken ribs, the EMT asked how I was doing; I replied by asking him if he had any duct tape so I could put my door back on and drive home, lol. (said in obvious jest, car was totally demolished). I guess looking back I should have had a bleaker outlook on life and taken it more seriously, huh. Boy do I ever feel ashamed of myself.

Yes, getting in an accident sucks; even when there is not injury involved, there's still heavy financial impacts and inconvenience... but come on, lighten the f up. Sh&t happens, it's easier to move on with life without pretending to be a perpetual victim.

Also on that note... pay no mind to me. I'm in some sort of mood this morning, and for some reason reading all that struck a nerve. None of what I said has any place in this thread, and I surely hope I haven't offended anyone (I know at the very least I've wasted your time).

Standing by for more of what this thread is really about... awesome pictures and updates on what we've done to our 4Runners.

    All of them.
Well moving on from the “why so serious” stuff.

I ordered the c4 secondary battery mount, ordered my battery from batteries plus. Probably at my office by now (three doors down and those guys rock ). I went with the Duracell dual purpose battery with 100ah capacity. Should give me roughly 2+ days of vehicle being off before it’s gone depending on how well packed the dometic is and ambient temp.

getting the redarc from my buddy this weekend. And should be good to go.

Now Trying to decide between an actual spod, a trigger six shooter, or the auxbeam controller for lights and compressor.

I suppose it depends on the angle of the hit to the hitch receiver. In theory, if it was a direct hit to the middle, and not too hard, both sides would take the impact and the truck would jostle forward.

But most hits aren’t direct (I’m talking degrees°). It’s pulling on once side of the hitch mounts and pushing on the other.

I got hit while sitting at a stop sign in my Tacoma. Direct hit to hitch. Other car was maybe going 10mph. Not a mark on my bumper. Not any visible damage to truck. I took it in to the dealer, they put it on the laser measure thingy, and sure enough, bent frame. And the truck wiggled down the road when driving on the hiway.

So, even a tap to the hitch would call for a body shop visit in my mind. Think about how just a wheel being out of balance or a flat spot on a tire causes vibes at speed. Now imagine the frame being slightly tweaked (in regard to the wheels). Same scenario.

Replaced windshield on my 2013 4Runner limited. Got a big chip from a small rock flew out of a construction truck on the highway.

Just my opinion but take it for what it’s worth.
Factory receivers (from any vehicle manufacturer) are engineered to take the daily abuse of towing duties.
It doesn’t matter if you tow a small utility trailer with yard maintenance equipment on it or all the way up to a 20’ travel trailer. (And don’t get me started on these brotrucks with 10” lifts and a 12”drop hitch towing a triple axle trailer) Just driving on a freeway with uneven expansion joints will flex it a bit. And also surface streets with all the potholes, cross gutters and the flexing from an uneven driveway approach.
And also D ring receivers (which I have on my Jeep and one for the 4R), that put forces on a frame in just a simple light or heavy tug to pop some other vehicle out of a jam.
And who’s to say that it was “perfectly” straight from the factory to begin with.
    Sorry guys.

That looks like a really good excuse to have someone else's insurance buy you a new rear bumper with a swing out.

Me: I don't want to be an annoying customer but Toyota changed the comm frequency for the TPMS for 2021, can you please be really careful with the sensors, I think it would be hard to replace them if you broke one.
Discount Tire: It's pretty simple man, they just screw off, we wont break them.

    ***One hour later***

Discount Tire: Hey sorry we broke two sensors and our machine can't read the new ones we put in, you'll have to take it to Toyota.

When I had my 2016 Tacoma I had all 4 wheels gouged down to the metal and 2 sensors broken while installing tires. Truck had 300 miles on it. Needless to say I got new wheels and sensors direct from Toyota and the tire shop covered the bill.

Yea I know what you mean. Guys do it all the time for looks or in some cases approach angle. It’s not required to clear a 33 though.

I wouldn’t. The high clearance cut is very high. Go too high and you’ll end up with a gap. Wait it out and cut once.

Yep. They fixed it and honest to god it rode better after the fix than it did from the factory. Not that it was bad from the factory. But there must have been a very slight vibe that I hadn’t even noticed. And after it was fixed I noticed how much smoother it actually was.

Who cares? This never shows everything anyway.
Less of a what did I do today and more of what I did recently. Nothing major, but still.

I got a hitch recovery thing. I actually got two. Each came with a d-ring. Now I have two d-rings, an extra hitch thingy in case the other person involved in a hypothetical future recovery scenario doesn't have one, and I have no straps yet. Oh well. Getting there. I installed one for rear end victim protection and removed its d-ring. I figure if someone steals the hitch thing then at least I'll still have my d-ring.

I also got a wheel step thing. It's my first time having a vehicle with a hard top in over 10 years, so I figured a little pick me up will help to clean snow and ice off the top of it since it's so high. It's not like my old Jeep Liberty with its soft top type thing which made cleaning snow and ice EASY since nothing ever froze to it. I wonder if I'm going to be a redneck like I did with my old Wrangler the one time the ice froze as one huge block to the top. I couldn't dislodge it, so I went driving, and the vibrations from the bumps loosened it on a side street. I got up a bit of speed and slammed on the brakes and had the huge slab of ice come down on my hood. I might be a redneck.

I used my 4Runner to take my little RC Trailrunner out a couple times over the weekend. That was fun. I then cleaned the rubbery trunk cover thing. I don't know what it's called. It was covered in mud from my little RC truck.

I saw a Toyota 86 flip in my rear view mirror. The driver was no Takumi Fujiwara, that's for sure. (OH NOES! I MADE A JOKE!) It was twisty, and I know I've got a bigger heavier vehicle, but the weather wasn't inclement in the slightest. I was planted and in rear wheel drive like I should have been, and it was fiiiiiiiiine. I could hear inappropriate revving behind me for about a mile leading up to that corner, and the car dropped back pretty far before taking the turn. I wonder if he was setting up to drift it. I could see him get sideways, then he snapped back to going sideways the other way, and then he was flipping over. I had to turn around to get back to the crash, so other people had already gotten there to help the guy before me. It looked like everyone was okay. The driver was visibly upset. Oh well. That's life sometimes. Spend a few years driving a Corolla and then maybe pick up the next gen of the 86/BRZ down the line. And don't do stupid stuff on public roads, especially if you can't handle it. I swear he would have been better off if he turned into the spin. He might have still gone off the road, but he probably wouldn't have careened off the road face first like he did.

I'll clarify...i.don’t mean to cut as high as I need for the sso clearance just enough to get a better approach. I run duratracs (true 33s) and no rubbing after slight nip and tuck. Guess im impatient. You're right tho I should just wait to make the final cut until high clearance get here

Does it bounce up/down with the roads & make noise? That is my concern. That & our shins while unloading! Lol
    Thanks,
