Although I have very bright reverse lights, I wanted to have more visibility and a wider area illuminated on my 2016 4Runner. I did my research and found some great, inexpensive LED Niglight Spot lights for under $20 on Amazon and attached them to my trailer hitch using a tow hitch bracket (also found on Amazon). Actually, due to welds on the OEM trailer hitch on my 4Runner, the tow hitch bracket would not fit so I had to purchase a hitch extension.

I wired these lights to a 7-pin trailer adapter so they would light up when the 4Runner was put in reverse. All I can say is WOW!!! I love the look and the results.

The output is very bright and covers a significant area. I have an LED light made by the same company that I installed on my Bull Bar and have been very pleased. I definitely recommend.

    Hello Te,

This wiring configuration only required that I have an additional 24" - 30" of 16 gauge wire: one red and one black. I connected the red and black wires from the lights to those wires and then connected the red and black wires to a 7-pin connector. The red wire to the center pin (reverse lights) and the black wire to the ground (you will have to look at the adapter to find out which pin is ground. Wiring only took about 10 -15 minutes.

Now, if you are planning on wiring this to the battery and having a switch on the dash, then yes, you will need a wiring harness. :)

    Take care.

Actually, all you need is the 7-pin connector (see link below) and approximately 30" of 16 guage wire (one black and one red). Only these two wires will be connected to the 7-pin connector. Cost is under $10 for the connector and the 2 pieces of wire. :) Oh, one more item, for protection of the wires, is to encase them in a split wire tubing. Here again, you will only need about 24" and then insert the one end into the 7-pin connector and the other secure with electrical tape and then use a zip tie to secure to the hitch housing.
