New here and new to the 4runner family. Just picked up the 2021 limited in magnetic grey and I was looking for some running boards/nerf bars. It looks like the only ones that are available are the flat ones from the factory( or very similar). Has anyone modified a set with those brackets so I dont have to remove the factory rocker panels?

Thank you. I was looking for something more aggressive. Something like the tyger auto star armor. Screenshot_20201207-220636_Amazon Shopping.jpg

I am in the process of confirming the toyota rock rails will work, I dont need sliders but need a step for the kids & wife, I also want something that in deep snow I can kind of see whats happening under them

    Aggressive Limited. Does not compute.

lol j/k.. good luck and let us know!

Does the limited have different factory mounting points for the steps?

I'll be surprised if the Toyota Rock Rails fit since I'm pretty sure they fit pretty tightly against the TRD rocker panels, no?

The limited has larger rocker panels. But I think the mounting points are the same. The factory boards are just a little too small IMO. I like the features of the limited but was looking for some style points on the outside.

My Limited has the automatic running boards that come out when you open the door. Can those still be removed and swapped out for something like this that’s permanent?

As I recall, N-Fab makes a step/ nerf bar that will fit the Limited.

Right on. Heh, I think the limited looks better than TRD. If I wasn't planning on beating up my truck in the woods I'd be driving a Nightshade fo sho.

Automatic running boards are fancy on the Limited but I hate when they get stuck due to ice build up. I have to remind wify to turn them off when it snows.

I know its off topic, let me give you another tip for limited. When unlocking the doors using door handle keep holding the door handle, after couple of seconds it unlocks all doors. You will find more fund stuff.. :):)

That's actually very useful! I saw online I can order an OBD2 or something like that and it connects to the truck so I can change stuff like that. I actually asked my dealer to modify it so the door unlocks all 4 doors on the first grab (they said they could) but they didn't do it.

Another question, with our Limited I get a little bit of vibration if i'm turning sharp at slow speeds, is that normal? This is my first vehicle with AWD.

There is a teeny tiny hesitation when taking sharp full lock turns at slower speeds on H4F mode compared to 2wd mode on other trims. That's normal. BTW its little unfair to call it AWD as I feel its way better than previous AWD Toyota's I had when there is ice on my driveway. I'm lazy so only clean the walkway so people won't slip and fall on ice and don't clean snow in front of the garage.

If you want to change vehicle settings you can buy the OBD device "Carista". I haven't used it or change any of my default settings. Here's an article about it -

Ok gotcha. Yeah I've referred to it as "full time 4wd" to a couple people and they say to me "that's AWD" so i've just started calling it that... lol

The Carista is what I looked at buying but the only thing I wanted to change was door locks so figured i'd try the dealer first.

It is my understanding that they can be removed. I would be interested in purchasing a set if I could find one in really good condition. I have the fixed nightshade boards and they are perfectly fine but I really wanted the auto set. Purchased my rig used.

Well ours are in great shape as the truck only has 34,000 miles and was just certified by Toyota. If my wife wants to get rid of them maybe we could sell them to you or work out a trade? I have no clue what they’re worth.

Yea, I would definitely be interested in seeing if we could work something out. I’ll shoot you a PM to discuss.

My 2014 was just simply programming the keys to do this. Now, anytime I touch the drivers door,it unlocks all 4 doors

They be ignent. LOL! Gen 4 Limiteds had a badge on the door that said "Limited 4 Wheel Drive". Ours be "full time 4 wheel drive". Says so right on the console switch, "4HF" not "AWD". That's 4 wheel drive free, center diff is not locked. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it. HAH!
