I've taken my stock OR on a number of Forest Service Roads in Pisgah National Forest a few times. These are nothing more than groomed gravel roads in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Since I'm usually solo, don't have any recovery gear, and more importantly, don't have the experience, I lean more to the conservative side of what I put my 4R into at the moment.

Once I get some more experience, I'll start venturing further into the wilds. I have been extremely happy with this vehicle.

Bought it specifically for off road overlanding. It's gonna pull a off road trailer. We got an Outback and Miata for streets.

I had a similar thing happen to me this past weekend. Was driving along chatting with a passenger and bam fell into a hole. Lifted a rear wheel. Was able to turn into it / turn down hill and drive out.

    No body damage hopefully?

I painted my boo boo with some super white from Autozone. From 5 feet away, looks good. Up close? 90 year old with veracose veins! Oh well...

Well done. Reminds me of a DIY I did on a white car of mine. Wind caught the passenger door and slammed it into a steel post. Bent the door in along the edge, more than a foot in length. And cracked the paint all the way to bare metal, about 10 inches in length. I hammered the bent metal back into place then applied multiple layers of touchup paint to the cracked area, with some light sanding in between. I was quite proud of the line I got hammering the metal back where it should be. Even the paint looked ok (especially in the rain LOL).

    Before and after:

the hammering was a process. used a block of wood to direct and soften the blows. worked on it on and off for a few days until it was just right.

I’m not knocking you or the pictures at all, but I needed to point out the irony of posting a picture on the dirt shoulder of a paved road in a thread about if people really take them off-road.

I’m still itching to get to Utah. NPS cancelled my permits for a long trip I had planned for this past spring. It seems like something always comes up when I try to go to Utah. This is no joke the 4th time something out of ordinary has screwed up my Utah plans. I live in Colorado and I’ve never been to Utah.

Hahah yea that would really suck but it was decently hot and the front was pointed directly into the sun and we had 4 days of dispersed camping so I tried to keep it as cool as possible

That photo was taken in Zion np - yes it’s on the side of the road but she looked good against the rocks. We dispersed camped for 4 nights out at Smithsonian butte. If you make it out there to Zion, camp there and head up the hill for a better view!

I've taken my stock Off Road on some FS roads and trails in state parks and Wildlife Management Areas in Southern NC and Northern SC quite a few times. Nothing to brag about, but I did get it beached in a decent mud puddle when I only had my 6 year old with me. I'm not sure what combination of ATRAC, CRAWL, or Locker worked, but it took about 5 minutes before it pulled itself out. That moment solidified and reinforced my love for this thing, especially on the stock Dunlops.

I will say that when that muddy water hits the hot exhaust, it makes a hell of a stink. My 6 year old kept asking me if I was farting.

My wife accidentally put the passenger tire onto the lawn pulling into the driveway today.

I will say I am jealous seeing all the wonderful scenery you west coast members have

Thanks it's the LFD full rack. Yeah I installed it myself pretty easy. I sold it to a friend and now I have the Sherpa rack :)

Something specific you like better with the Sherpa rack? I took a quick look at their Crestone aluminum full rack. Looks nice and very light!

It sits lower on the roof and less weight. I bought the LFD before they had the aluminum option. The main reason I bought the Sherpa is to clear my carport for the GFC Superlite RTT I'm waiting to be delivered. I was concern I had to air down to 10 psi for the carport and 18 psi to offroad  Another reason is I'm trying to shave off weight on top as much as possible to limit top heaviness for the trails and off camber situations it is a 5k+ lbs SUV after all. I'll have anywhere from 1" to 3" of clearance from the carport...depends if I have bedding and sleep pad in it. The fit and finish is superb and worth every penny also their customer service is excellent IMO

HAH! And I was lambasted 'cause I only go 780' from the road to go shootin' and drive a half mile on gravel. BTW, she didn't hit a sprinkler head did she? HEH! Hang in there. Not all of us are offroaders. I just like my 'Runners.

I take mine in the dirt as often as I can. Unfortunately, with the pandemic, I haven't gone out nearly as much as I want to. I'm hoping 2021 will be a better year and I'll be able to go out more with my friends.

I got out a few weeks ago with my local 4R group. We went to a place called Empire Ranch near Sonoita, AZ. About an hour East of Tucson. Pin-striping is part of the fun down here in the desert! All buffed out pretty easily anyway, with a little elbow grease and some Adams Swirl and Scratch remover.Empire 1.jpg Empire 3.jpg Empire 4.jpg Empire 5.jpg
