I am purchasing the ‘21 off-road premium soon. I am not going to immediately due to cash flow lol, but would love to swap out for the Pro wheels. Any good sources to purchase them from when the time is right? Or best to just get them from Toyota.

Talking about these, to be clear:

if you will take it offroad, the OR rims are way better than the pro ones. I know they are not black, but in my books function over looks is more important.
otherwise, i'd buy replicas, at least where I am, the real pros are generally stupid expensive

Just sold a set. They usually sell for only a little less than retail price at the dealer. Some companies make replicas though

Thank you all for the replies. I will take it all into consideration.

Noob question from a noob like myself.....the stock tires that come with the ORP will not fit the Pro rims? Hypothetically speaking of course ;)

They are the biggest pain in the ass to keep looking good. When they have been cleaned and treated they look great for a few weeks and then you spend another hour doing it all over again.

You know I have been debating this wheel topic with my decision on my new 4R. Your comment about cleaning seems very justified. I like keeping mu ride clean and all those crevices and black seem like a back breaker. I am not going to be a real off road guy either.

I know on other cars I am at least every other week cleaning the wheels well to get off brake dust and dirt. Maybe black wheels it doesn’t show up as much?

I want a silver body and just my opinion the all black wheel on a silver body anyway is bit much.

I just thought it be nice to do something unique.

Painted wheels are more difficult to keep clean. Polished wheels are easier, especially if you keep wax on them.

I have had good luck with Mother’s aluminum mag wheel cleaner on my Accord wheels although you have to make sure of your wheel type. I called and emailed pics of mine to mothers. I just spray on and use a washcloth and rinse. I will have to ask them about 4Runner wheels.

I have never used waxed but it seems like good idea. If they stay cleaner no need for this cleaner I just mentioned. Maybe just normal car wash soap

If the painted wheels are actually powder coated, which I believe most are, they should be relatively easy to clean. Some wheels that have a lot of narrow slots - like the PRO wheels - may require some brush work. But I'm going to order a set along with my 2021 TRD/ORP anyway, because they look good. LOL

To the original poster, if you are sure you like the Pro wheels (I do) and you are purchasing new, simply negotiate those into the purchase. You will most likely get a better price on them installed, anyway. I did this. Just a suggestion.

Good luck on whatever you decide, make it yours!

Bigger A/T LT Tires, Slight Lift, Sliders, Rack, Lights, etc.
If you never see yourself lifting the truck a few inches and maxing out it's tire size for some pretty serious off-roading, then there is nothing wrong with the TRD Pro / Venture wheels. Sure, the TRD OR wheels are 1/2" wider and have a little recess for the valve stem, but I would never call them "much better." The Pro wheels have a lower offset which visually enhances the wheel/tire look, which is definitely nice. However, many would not recommend a very large off-road tire on the Pro/Venture wheel. Some run a large tire, anyway. Again, if you aren't doing any extreme off-roading (for a 4Runner), go with what you like based upon looks.

As far as tires.. again, if you aren't doing any fairly serious off-roading, I would go for a *mild* A/T tire. What does mild mean? Look at the sidewall tread and the main tread.. some A/T tires are obviously more aggressive than others. Also note tire weight as it varies a lot and is very important. For a mostly pavement DD with very little off-road action, get something light. Stay away from E Rated for sure. I would also avoid C rated and just get Passenger rated tires, to be honest.

I’d just powder coat the ORP wheels. They’re very good off-roading wheels, maybe better than the Pros, as others have mentioned

I'm thinking about purchasing a set of the 4Runner TRD PRO Bronze Sema Wheels (17x7) for my Tacoma. Anyone have any pictures of a white tacoma/4runner with those wheels?

Skip the OEM wheels and go with FN Wheels FX Pro They 17x8 rather than 17x7 and have less back spacing so much better for a larger tire. They also come in multiple colors rather than the normal flat black of the stock wheels. I have had mine since my 4Runner had 300 miles on it and I am still happy with them.

    @koukimonster

Completely stock TRD Pro with Nitto Terra Grappler 265/70-17 tires. The TRD Pro is a little higher in the front than a standard 4Runner (about 1") and I think since the suspension is a bit stiffer, it might sag less with gear in the trunk. We didn't have much weight with us on this trip though.

It might look higher though since we don't have rock sliders (yet).
