Sleeping in Gen 5

Just got my first 4 Runner. A 2021 TRD Off Road, super excited to do some camping. Other than a RTT, how do you sleep inside the cabin? I have a few air mattresses that are too long. I don't want to modify the seating arrangements. (No 3rd row) I guess I need a shorter air mattress that has the side wall cuts outs. The "hump" should be not noticed once all the bedding is in. Ideas??

This is what I do. I have the 40% seat bottom removed to make it easy for my dog to jump in and out so that gives me more room. I cram the 72" long Exped mattress inside. I stuff a pillow between the front seat to fill that space and then I have plenty of room and I'm 6'1. This all allows me to keep the rear seat for my dog while we travel. It works really well for us. The best thing I did was get the rear cargo tray so I have a flat floor.

 

I have a foam sleeping pad that self inflates/rolls away, add a few heavy blankets and I’m seats. Just lay down the sets. If I wanted to sleep better, I’d take my 65qt cooler out. At 6’1” I can’t fully stretch out but it’s still comfortable

 

I use this AirBedz mattress... works great.

 

Not to be that guy, but do a search. This has been talked about a lot. You will feel the hump though bedding. You can remove seat bottoms to free up more room. Lots of ideas, suggestions in the other threads.

I built a platform. It has been working great for me.

 

I've slept in mine several times, along with sleeping in a RTT on the same rig. The RTT is much better in a hotter climate, but for a mild or cold climate, I'd much rather sleep in the vehicle. I rarely ever put my RTT on my rig now.

I don't feel the gap behind the 2nd row seats at all. I stuff some towels in it, use a Costco "backpacking" air pad and I'm good.

There's a couple companies who make sleeping platforms for the 4Runner and it's pretty easy to make one yourself, but I need more room than that or I get claustrophobic.

My best advice - sleep in it while parked in your driveway and make a decision on what works for you. It's cheap to make a carpeted piece of plywood to level it out if it bothers you.

 

Or just find a rear sliding cargo tray and then you have a flat floor.
