Used car market is fucked right now. You would have a better chance of finding a lifeboat on the sinking titanic than you would finding a manual 4x4 4runner with that amount of miles at a reasonable price on the west coast.

I did this less then six months ago. I paid an ungodly amount, like well well over 5k for a 4x4 base model with manual transmission that had an undercoat and a pristine interior with less than 170,000 miles. I also drove 12 hours across 2 western states to get it because where I get live the 4x4 manuals go fast and for way too much. Its ridiculous, I would check craigslist at lunch break, see one for sale, email them, and by the time I got off at work it would already be sold.

Your best bet is to check craigslist and facebook market place. If your lucky one will show up near you in good condition. If not, you should be checking a few states away if you need a car like I did. Also my parents really wanted me to get this generation, because all the other vehicles I was considering buying were pre-airbag abs vehicles like cj5, cj7, Toyota pickups, and 4runner 1st and 2nd gens. And of course a week after I got mine a manual SR5 (with locking rear diffs) in better paint condition, original everything, showed up for less money than what I paid for, and of course to salt my wounds it stayed on the market for over 2 days (which was glacial to before)

Where I was in bay area, its a sellers market and there is almost no negotiating leverage, they pretty much get what they want. I was considering making it a business its that bad or good depending on the pov. Act fast because the good ones go lightning quick. Autotrader and Car Gurus are pretty much useless, they are over price and have fewer listings. Facebook market place and Craigslist are your two best search tools available.
