Has anyone tried or successfully removed the EGR system from there 2016 4runner with the 4.0 v6 in it. I am debating on it. Honestly by the looks of the system it looks self contained as wild as that sounds. Doesn't even look like it routes into the intake Manifold at all. Also any info would be helpful.

Well from my experience they really don't do the engine any good. I also believe it is tied to my stuttering under load.

Unless you want your rig to throw a code and not pass smog control then I don’t see why you should. It’s a proven engine, it works the way it’s designed. I don’t see why you would want to tinker with it in that capacity.

I dont have to worry about smog. Lol proven they can suck up some gas. Tinkering is my hobby, professionally I am a Technician. Codes are easy to get rid of with the right tools. I am just seeing if anyone else has done it at all and what were the results.

    Hi:

If you don't have to sweat smog check regulations, go ahead and do it.
It is, as you say, a relatively self contained system, and there is a buttload of info on Toyota tech forums on how to make it work.
BUT, be prepared to suffer some consequences further down the road.
    How far, is anybodies guess.

    1.) Shortened cat converter life.
    2.) Shortened muffler life.
3.) Increased thermal stress on the engine, at the aluminum to iron, head/block gasket join. (due to long time high combustion temperatures)

There are more eventual consequences, but they are very technical, and boring to read.
You will not get better gas mileage. (maybe slightly less)
You will not see an increase in power to the wheels.
You will perceive (over a long time span), a sour smelling exhaust output, and wonder "What the hell is causing that"?
    Just my $.02
    Good Luck
    Art.
