Powder-Coated Stock Wheels? Anyone...?

Anyone here powder coat their stock wheels?

Curious to see what they would look like in a variety of colors.

In all honesty it’s not worth the cost, you’re going to pay to dismount, you’re going to pay for powder coating, then you’re going to pay to mount and balance. Depending on your area and the cost for quality powder coating you’re looking at $500-$600 range plus down time and running around. You can spend that money towards new wheels, sell your old ones for a few hundred dollars and end up with nicer wheels for not much more money.

If you want to keep OEM wheels take them off, mask them, and just spray them with plastidip.

I plan to have my stock off road wheels powder coated shortly. There's a place locally that will do all four for $300. I'm replacing the tires anyway, so there are no extra losses due to tire removal and reinstalling. I may eventually get some FN or SCS flow formed wheels, but the stocks look good in my opinion and only weigh about 28 lbs.

 

I had originally planned to have a set of TE wheels I have powder coated and put on when I get my new tires, but the more I think about it, the more lean towards leaving them as they are.

 

I just put my 2011 FJ Cruiser rims on my 2021 4Runner after having them powder coated. I am in love... Probably going to swap out the hub caps for the TRD ones with black lettering. I paid $105 per rim which included chemical stripping.

Yes, I am still waiting on the sliders to be delivered. That will close round one of the mods. I went back and forth on buy new rims or keep these. They will remind me of the FJ which I chose to sell after 7.5 years. I just wasn't willing to blow over $1000 on new rims that I liked as an alternative. My garage is already full of stuff. I might as well try to use some of it.

 

Those wheels look great. Were they silver previously?
