Looking into replacing my OEM battery. I have a 2018 ORP. I've got an Optima red top in my F-150, and just wanting to see opinions. Sparked by having in accessory mode for 30 minutes and killed the battery. Dual setup? upgrade battery? What say you?

I have never had issue with Northstar 27F. Used it in Tacoma and then moved it to 4Runner when sold Tacoma.

I've Northstar also for 3 years now. Reads resting 12.3 volts which isn't 100% charge (its holding about 75%) and hoping to get 1-2 more years out of it. It has to last 5 years to pay for itself.

What battery tray did you upgrade with the group 31 battery?

We have not had to change the battery in the 4Runner yet. On my 2 work trucks & mowers I use Interstate. In my old shop I was neighbors with a limo company and they used them exclusively.
I have had no troubles with them.

X2 Power is Northstar rebranded for Batteries Plus for slightly less money, plus they always have coupons to save 10% if you buy online and pick up in store. You need a voltage booster if you want to run an AGM battery though.you can go up to a Group 31 if you feel you need the extra capacity.

I'm not sure of the CCA required for the 4Runners but I retro-fitted a Interstate 1000CCA in a '86 Toy pickup, it worked great! If you are going to use ACC. mode for long periods of time, the yellow top Optima has a deeper cycle time than the red top, costs about $50.00 more than the yellow top, but the yellow top has 100 more CCA than the yellow top, a trade-off, I have had good luck with Interstate and Optima and also run a Deka in an old pickup, they all get old eventually.

That’s interesting, never heard about a pre-purchase test. My current Red Top is 7yrs. old. I took it out of a 2010 Rav that we traded in for the 4R.

    Subbed..

I am interested in one of the AGM type aftermarket batteries. I just don't know which one yet.

For what it’s worth according to consumer reports Odyssey Performance Series is pretty much always the top rated option with Super Start Platinum AGM not far behind but at a significantly lower cost.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I sold my 2011 Tacoma in '16 with the original battery, and my 16' 4Runner has the original battery. Never had issues and had aftermarket stereo systems with subwoofers in both.

Maybe I'm just getting lucky or I haven't caught the marketing bug from places like Optima?

Thank you! I thought I had read that one brand was sold through an auto parts chain under a different name. Maybe those are the ones. Looks like I'll be visit oh, oh, oh, O'reilly when the stock battery starts getting wimpy.

The original battery on my 2003 4runner lasted well over 100K and I was on battery #2 when I sold it in 2017. The original battery was a Panasonic, though.

I've heard of the OEM batteries crapping out pretty quickly on the newer vehicles, but this could be the exception. I'm just interested in an upgrade as I've added lights and a winch and I'm probably just overthinking it.:)

You might be thinking of X2 Power? That’s Northstar rebranded for Batteries Plus.
