2021 4Runner 1-year Toyota connected services trial

App based remote starter. Too bad it’s only for one year before they make us pay $80 a year, which no one will do lol

 

I just bought a 2021 Trail Edition with the Toyota Connected Services but I don't have the option for remote start. If all you want is remote start, you may already have it.

Can you still remote start with the key fob without paying the $80?

If not, this is one of those deals that would make me not buy the vehicle because screw you for making me pay for something I can’t use.

 

Yes you can. At least I can on my 2020.

 

To be honest I will likely pay for it. I travel a lot for work so being able to check my vehicle, start my vehicle and keep an eye on it is important. For instance, leaving it at a park valet it will allow me to track how many km's it is drive, its location and warm it up while coming through the airport.

 

I also like that it nags you when you leave it unlocked and then you can lock it from wherever you are.

 

OR $8 a month. thats basically nothing. Besides I love when my trudy texts me. I feel loved.

 

With the key fob car starter you have access to that for 3 years then it won't work without paying for it.

 

The keyfob started wont work? I have a 2020 Venture Edition and I tried to start it with the keyfob but no luck, the app only for me which is okay.

 

If you have the remote connect app then the key fob should work. Are you pushing lock 3 times and holding the 3rd click?

 

The key fob thing only works if you have a Pro or a Limited. It has something to do with the JBL sound system installed in them im told.

 

How confusing! lol Does it indicate on the keyfob at all that it has remote start? To be honest I would prefer to have the app over the keyfob remote start if I had to pick.

 

nothing on the key fob to indicate remote start. I’m pretty sure there’s nothing in the manual. I found out mine had it from being on his forum.

 

Bummed that this doesn't show up as an option on my 2020. App is there, but no remote start button.

 

For us canucks we have the app as well as the key fob remote start on every trim except for the trail.

 

We'll be, I just tried this on my CAD Venture and it does indeed! Who in the Marketing Team at Toyota forgot to include this on, ohh I don't know, the key fob.

 

Thats some solid trolling on toyotas part to not give everyone in the U.S. remote start

I have the app and can remote start it from the fob. TRD OR 2020. Rest assured they want like $20/month for each of the services.
not sure why they do this. I find it absurd. Throw the cost of 3 years in the price of the car and nobody bats an eye, instead of nickel and dimming me after a year.

 

What trash mean while Ford Pass offers these services for free. Also in their older models 2017 and up. ‍♂️

It seems like toyota’s approach to sell buyers continuing access to features on their own vehicles is managing to piss everyone off lol…Those that want remote start, end up feeling like they are being used as cash-cows in order to use features on their cars (because, well, that’s what they’re doing)… and then those that are pissed off that toyota HQ has a constant cellular/internet connection to their privately owned car from the outside, and would rather excise every last bit of remote-control access from toyota or their “affiliated partners”

I fall in the luddite camp. I’d rather they kept this stuff for luxury cars/modern cars like teslas or rivians. Not on old-tech vehicles like 4runners.

 

I’m glad I store my 4R for winter and not concerned about remote start. I certainly can appreciate it for those who use as every day vehicle

 

This is why I have a 2019 and have no plans for buying newer. None of this crap on my truck, neither the TSS junk. I drive the old fashioned way: By paying attention!!
