Have a 2021 RTD ORP and know very little about hitches and towing. Interested in getting one to use a step and maybe prevent minor bumper damage from the rear.

Would pretty much any one that claims to fit a 2" receiver work on these 4Runners?

    Example:

    Thanks very much in advance!

Correct- as long as it's 2", it should work. I bought the smittybuilt beaver step a while back and like it. They work as steps and provide some protection against people hitting your car while parallel parking, etc.

Bumping an older thread. Anyone have any solutions to stop hitch step rattle? Also, the metal on metal is annoying to hear but also ended up causing rust on a prior vehicle. Would like to not have that happen.

To fix rattle, something like this is pretty popular: https://www.amazon.com/Rhino-USA-Hi...623351113&sprefix=hitch+rattle,aps,183&sr=8-5
However be mindful that if your hitch has the two rings on either side to accept the backup chain hooks from towed trailers, some of these hitch rattle reducers wont fit...ask me how I know.

As for preventing rust, two options are painting the surfaces of all would-be metal on metal, or put something in between them completely - cardboard, plastic, bedliner, etc.

Someone on here had fitment issues with the Weathertech in the standard 2" receiver... it was like a hair too big or something and wouldn't fit. The one I had, briefly, fit fine though so I'm not sure what the issue was exactly with his.

I actually found the Toyota OEM draw bar, with no ball mounted, and flipped upside down in the receiver, makes a very nice step and it will shred any fool's radiator that might happen to tap you from behind. Mine came with the truck.

I was thinking of applying fluid film to mine and put on a wax application pad. A friend of mine from the forum suggested. I also plan to do this to the bracket where the trailer wires go in.

Since I have never done this I plan to see how it works in a non visible area first.

On my old Explorer I had a shop spray it with rubberized undercoating snd it worked great for many many years.

This would be more difficult on the 4R since you would have to tape off the bumper etal

Thanks for that link! Ordering it. Thanks for the tip. Bedliner would be nice I think but not sure of tolerances for future fit.

Ah no Weathertech then, thank you. Not sure what yours looks like. Will Google. Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestions. I feel like Fluid Film wouldn't last very long if both components rubbing. Trying to think of a good thin rubber that I can stretch over it.
