Backstory. Im trading in my 2017 Tacoma for a 2020 4Runner. I had a FOX 3" suspension lift and BMC. Was a good truck but I always wanted a 4Runner so I jumped the gun.

The taco was running 16 Ray 10s, 8x6 with Cooper Discoverer 285/75/r16s. I was hoping I could just swap the wheels and tires on the 4Runner after I get it just for street driving.

Has anyone done this successfully? Am I stuck waiting with stock wheels/tires until I upgrade? Do the tires rub at that size?
(They rubbed on the Taco before BMC)

I hear very inconsistent answers when trying to research. Again, I intend on just street driving for the time being. My first investment in the 4Runner will be a lift/suspension and BMC/Mod if necessary.

Will you be at stock height? You’ll get rubbing at stock height with 285’s, but more importantly you can’t run anything smaller than a 17” wheel on the 4runners due to the break caliper. With lift and a BMC you’ll clear it just fine, but a BMC may not be needed depending on what wheel specs you’ll have paired with the tires.

I guess I missed the fact that I can't run 16"s. I will probably sell these off to offset the cost of some new/used SCS 17"s. Shame. Guess I should have done more research before!

Check out the blemished wheel thread from SCS on tacomaworld! I got mine from there, saved about $200 and I couldn’t tell they were “blemished” or had cast imperfections. I also knew I’d be beating up the wheels on trails so I didn’t care to spend more money for something that was immaculate. I think it was about $950 shipped with a set of lugs for 17x9 -38mm Ray10’s.

With a 1 3/4 level and the black TRD 17” rims you can fit a 275/70 (32.5x11) with no rubbing at lock and bump.
