    Hi,
I am new to the forum, and I have 4Runner 1993 which was not operated since 2017 due to I guessed is some kind of transmission problem (odometer not running...)
Now I want to fix the transmission problem, and Google around most say that vehicle speed sensor needs replaced. My questions are:
    1. Where is VSS located and how many of VSS have?
    2. Where can I buy these?
    Thanks,

Is it just the odometer that is not working?

The speed intermittently works, when it does not work-- the RPM is very high, speed slows, and needle has not turned

You can either buy your own code reader or if you an drive it, take it too an autoparts store. They do it for free.

The 2nd Gen has OBD 1, use a paper clip between TE1 and E1 terminals in the diagnostics port and count the flashes of the Check Engine Light.

I had a similar problem on my '94. It turned out to be loose connection in the gauge cluster. I had to remove the cluster and solder the connection.
