    Hi all!
I recently purchased an SR5 w/4WD and I am looking to go drive some easy trails around the SoCal area as day trips. Anyone know of any trails you can go with the stock wheels? I have not upgraded the tires yet so want to be cautious. Thanks!

SoCal is larger than most states. In what part of it are you located? That’ll help us steer you in the right direction. :D

Lucky you! There are a ton of places within a few hours drive. To the north you’ve got Hungry Valley SVRA. To the south you’ve got Anza-Borrego and Joshua Tree. Go east and it’ll put you in my favorite place to wheel locally, Big Bear! In particular the Crab Flats/Holcomb Valley Rd.(3N16) is an easy and beautiful trip thru the backcountry between Green Valley Lake and Big Bear. I highly recommend it.

Are these all manageable on stock tires and suspension?

Take the 14 north. When you reach the north side of the hills you will find a lot of desert with decent roads. Put your beast through the gears, use your options, get familiar so when you need them, you know how to use them.
Take water, shovel, matches and a CB.
    Have fun my friend.

My vote would be Holcomb 3N16. Should be nice this time year.

Is there a detailed map for the Crab Flats/Holcomb Valley Rd trail? How do would I get to the trailhead from So Cal?

Agree with Big Bear and Holcolm Valley Trail and if you have the time, Burns Canyon. It runs East of Big Bear and drops you off at Rimrock, or visa versa. My GAIA GPS route logged the Burns trail at around an 18 mile trail. Makes for a great run going from Rimrock (desert) to Big Bear (forest) and if you have the time to do both, makes for a great day trip.

Jawbone, Dove Springs area north of Mojave. Stop at Jawbone Station on Hwy. 14 for maps and local information.
Lots of trails with varying degrees of difficulty. Area is popular with motorcycle riders as well, so you need to be alert on the trails. Some of the routes lead into the Sequoia National Forest which is a great area for summer camping.
