So my wife and I traded in the ‘17 Tacoma we bought new in ‘17 on a new ‘21 SR5 Premium (early Christmas present for her). So of course, now I have to put new wheels and tires on it. I know I’m gonna put the Toyo AT III’s on it (had the AT IIs on the Taco and my dad loves the AT IIIs on his Ram 2500). The bigger question is what specs are needed to fit 17x9s without mods if possible? The wheels she likes only come in a 17x9, 4.530” BS. I’m trying to convince her the Level 8 MK6’s are better (they also come in a 17x8, 4.5” BS, only 1” wider than stock). Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

So based some browsing, it seems like 265/70/17s will fit with no rubbing on a 17x8 with 4.5” of backspacing.

    Welcome to the forum!

I ran stock size tires on 17×9's at -6 offset. They rubbed the mudflaps occasionally while braking and turning. You're best off at 0 offset or slight positive offset. I think the stock wheel specs are listed in one of the threads you're looking at.

So I'm having trouble finding solid information. I really like the Level 8 MK6's and the wife does too, now that I showed her a pic of a black T4R with the black MK6s. The problem I'm having is the offset. I'd like to order them in a 17x8, 4.5" backspace, 0 offset. I plan on ordering them with new tires through Discounttire, but what worries me is that their website says the 0 offset wheel does not fit, but the -10mm offset wheel does fit. Any suggestions. Most of the information I find deal with lifted 4Runners.

I would make it easy and pass on the 17x9. Just my opinion. I’m running 17x8.5 inch wheel with 285’s and no issues rubbing.

Yeah I’m gonna stick with a 17x8. I just can’t find anything about 0 offset or -10 mm offset being better for preventing rubbing with stock size tires.

Go with 0 offset out of those 2. The negative offset will make you rub on the outside of the tires

If you can get a set of SCS wheels they have the correct offset. That’s what I’m running.

I wouldn’t mind the SCSs but they a bit pricier than the Level 8s, and they’re a little wider which would concern me with rubbing, plus I like the look of the Level 8s, and I can get the Level 8s at Discount Tire. And I think my tire choice is gonna change to the Falken Wildpeaks. My cousin raves about his, the google seems to show people being happy with them, and they seem to be about $25 cheaper per tire. What’s not to love? Now I just need to convince the wife to let me drop the dough 2 days after buying the truck in the first place.

Sounds good. Not trying to scare you I tried 3 sets of Falkens. Could not get them balanced for my Pro. It’s happens a lot on the 4runner. Hit or miss with a lot of owners. My tire place removed them and I have Nitto’s on now.

Yeah some quick research showed a lot of issues with Toyotas and Falkens
