Which 5th gen to get?

    I am currently driving a V6 4th Gen with a 2" front lift and 1" back using Bilstein 6100s front and 5100s back and Eibach springs. A bit over 200K Miles and starting to have a number of issues that are starting to make it expensive to drive (AC compressor, fuel pump, CV joints...ect...) I am thinking about getting a newer 5th Gen. Is the TRD Pro worth it? Is is just a spacer lift? Would I be better off getting a SR5 Premium and upgrading the suspension a bit. This is a 4X4 driver as I drive to work with it and drive a few hours often for fishing / Camping trips.

    If you had to do it over what would you go with knowing what you know now?

    I just recently purchased a 2020 Off Road Premium. I did so because I knew that I would be changing a lot of things, suspension being one of them so buying a TRD Pro would have been a waste of money. I’m not going to throw off on the TRD Pro because they are damn nice but it just wasn’t for me because of what I plan to do with mine.

    The TRD Off Road Premium has everything that I want and nothing that I don’t want. It has the KDSS, sunroof, faux leather, sliding cargo deck, locking rear differential, crawl control, etc. By the time I am done with all of my mods, I will have about the same amount invested as I would have if I had bought a TRD Pro but I will have EXACTLY what I want except for the supercharger since Magnuson cannot seem to figure out how to configure the PCM to make it work on a 2020.

    Again, this is just my opinion for what it’s worth.

    TRD Pro is worth it if you are not looking to mod anything. That fox suspension is tuned specifically for the 4Runner and is more than adequate to handle your needs. I wouldn't mess with the TRD Pro suspension if you got the TRD Pro because you are essentially throwing away $$$ by swapping out the Fox Suspension.

    If you want to lift your 4runner and looking for more of a blank canvas, my personal opinion would be the TRD Off Road (premium if you want the softex). The SR5 lacks the locking rear diff, crawl control and multi terrain select.

    I agree with everyone’s post. I went with Pro simply because I wanted to keep it stock. I was tired of modding jeeps. Another thing to think about is color. Some don’t put much thought into this but I do. You have to look at it everyday so if you like the color the pro offers each year that can help. Aside from tires, the pro has everything I wanted. And the tires aren’t awful just not what I’d choose.

    Skip the trd pro get an SR5 remove badge put suspension on it from me for a great deal and enjoy the fake locker that is atrac. If you want the locker then go trd off road. Pro is for those who like shiny things. Used 4runner w my used suspension best bang for buck.

    You need to make your own mind up because reading all the posts from different owners it will confuse you more than you know. I have had a lot of Toyota’s and it mostly about numbers with me. I had a brand new 17 Pro traded on my 2020 Pro got almost what I paid for it. You will not do that with any other 4runner model. The only thing I wanted to do on my Pro was run 285’s well you need to change the springs out to the new Eibach to lift it high enough. I can always change it back if needed. New springs are only $300.00. And it makes the Pro ride better and handle better than the stock springs. Not much cost at all.

    Yeah that's why I bought a Pro is because I was tired of modding Jeeps. Then Eibach came out with their Pro springs and now I have 285's. Would change my decision though. I love the look and it rides better than any Jeep I ever modded. So glad I swapped the G2's for Falkens. Handle better in rain and way less noise.

    Get at least the 4x4 model, after that choose if you want factory locker or not, KDSS or not, and other fancy options or not.

    Hey Nate Smith, the big choice is KDSS or not. The Pro doesn’t have it. Who knows why not. It should. For someone driving on big roads and pavement KDSS adds quite a bit of technology and handling at high speed to an off road vehicle. Arguably superior to anything from Land Rover or Mercedes. Why wouldn’t you want that? It’s a no brainer for anyone who has it.

    I'd highly suggest the TRD OR w KDSS. If you're using it as a daily driver, and for occasional offroading, I think the KDSS makes the OR better than the Pro straight up, never mind that's 10K cheaper.

    Im sorry I have to disagree with everyone. I think if you have the money for a Pro and the money to change what you want then do it. I shouldve done it for the color, exhaust, climate control.

    The Pro is not a “shiny” or “appearance” package in any way. Just like all the posts pretty much say, you probably will need to make up your own mind. Everyone loves what they have because let’s face it, any choice is a good choice I think. It’s just what fits your needs and budget the most. But one thing about it and what helped me was no matter what mods you make to an SR5 or ORP it will not be a Pro and what I mean by that is if you ever decided to trade or sell you will be happy you got a Pro! As much as I love to say I’ll keep something forever my past history tells me I fall in love with another vehicle after some years. Old Toyota guy made a great point and I’m glad he did. The KDSS adds way more to on road driveability than it gets credit for. In my personal opinion for my little experience, research and my buddies ORP this is where it shines. It does not make it a more capable off road vehicle in my personal opinion. At times maybe a smoother ride off road depending on the situation but not more capable. It shines in turns and some on road situations where other 4R don’t. Good luck with your choice and let us know. Great people on here and it’s been fun so far and you’ll love it

    I need 3rd row so would not change anything. If i had to do it all again I would have to choose between the KDSS ORP or the Torsen center diff LE, and I might still spring for an LE again. Best of luck with your shopping.

    After a long long time researching, and with lots of A-trac experience(it's great), I went SR5 Premium. I don't do any rock crawling(just an example to sum it up), so I opted out of the TRD off road features, specifically the locking rear and multi terrain features. I drove the Pro, and I do like it, and honestly, I test drove them all more than I needed...but the SR5 premium will be perfect for me. I didn't want/need a pro, or off road, I wanted something like a Venture, but NOT a venture, so I will just make it my own.

    At the end of the day, you don't want regrets. These forums are an excellent source of info and lots of experience too. I hope you end up with the one for you!
