    Hello All

I'm brand new here. There has been rust accumulating on the left rear body panel above the left rear wheel (see attached picture). I have been looking at replacing it, but I don't know what the body part is called. Does anyone know what the panel is called and where I can buy it? I've tried rear quarter panel, quarter panel, rear side panel but to no avail.

Is it better to sandblast the rust out or replace the entire panel?

    It's a 1999 Toyota 4Runner SR5 V6 AWD in dark green for reference.

well for starters, if its surface rust only, id sand it down and have it repainted just in that spot, it'll be far cheaper than replacing the whole panel, unless you find a relatively inexpensive one that is color matched. as far as the body piece goes, i believe that it isn't a panel, and is rather part of the body shell, therefore it cannot be replaced on its own. hope this helps you out

To replace that body panel, which is the driver rear fender, or driver rear quarter panel, it would cost you BIG money.

I had crunched my right rear corner and they would have to replace from the end of the back door to about 1/4 of the way into the rear hatch area. Their estimate was $2,000

I recommend taking a screw driver or awl and gently tap to see if it's just on the surface, or if you're rusted through.

A good body shop should be able to repair a small rust spot for relatively cheap.

That's a quarterpanel, and you can't just replace it, I don't think anybody is making that patch panel for the 3rd gen yet. If it's not yet rusted through you can sand it, skim it with bondo, and get some color matched paint in a spray can and make a pretty good repair. If it has rusted through, get some Bushwackers and hide it, because the "right" way to fix it at that point is to cut out the rusted section, fab a piece of sheet metal to match what you cut in, weld it in place, then you're back to bondo and paint. Not easy to do yourself, and not cheap to have a shop do it.
