I would rather buy a OEM new Yota motor than rebuilt. Any sources for a brand new one?

Welcome to the forum, I’m not 100% on it , but i don’t think you can get a new one.

I think you can only get a new one from a Dealer...they may not even have it. They may only have rebuilt also.

Give them a call and report back? I'd be interested to know just out of curiosity.

I did not purchase a new one nor did I buy a rebuilt one. I purchased one with 109,000 miles on it and since have added over 1500 miles so far, no problems, smooth sailing.

I’ve only swapped out motors a couple of times in my distant past, but I agree carpetben, my inclination then was to go new. In my case, the cost was prohibitive, so I picked up a low mileage motor from a wrecking yard. I remember one I picked out was from a new car that was totalled at less an a year old. These also came with a warranty if I remember correctly and were quite affordable.

Before buying a new motor, can your current one be fixed? What is the issue? Head gasket?

My mechanic got the engine and put it in. Not sure from where or who he got it from.

I'm almost embarrassed to say, lack of oil changes. It seized up on the way to drop the wife off at the airport. 330,000 miles.

If you're a risk taker...and like to toss the dice, from time to time...you can usually find a motor out of the bone yard...and take it to install...either it'll be a dicey experience, or it'll run great, with many hours of music, for the time being..or you can hunt thru the net, for a rebuilt motor, or a brand new in the crate...
