I have the opportunity to get a hold of a console that’s way better than mine, but it’s out of a 94. Does it fit in my 88?

It will fit within the space given but it won't bolt down and if you have the rear heater then that might complicate things too. You should also use the 94 shifter bezel, I think I remember the original shifter bezel tabs not connecting to the 2nd gen console properly.

The unit available has the shifter boot bezel available with it. It also has rear heat, which mine has. The distance between the mounting screws in the front and middle mounting points is 14 1/4 inches. Anyone have a 2nd gen that can measure theirs?

I was looking at the same idea, it is the same general size, but doesn't work. I have 3 Gen one consoles though (project vehicle, parts vehicle and replacement that I bought better I found the parts vehicle, and wasn't sure if I wanted to fix the lid on there project vehicle) stop depending on where you are located I might be able to help you out.

That's good to hear. It's getting harder to find these parts, but a happy moment when you do.

Finding a gen 1 bezel is turning out to be hard

I hear you, not sure what country you are in but all the 4runners here rusted out in the same places, and broken in the same ways so it is impossible to fix things, but I got lucky on a few items just but checking sites like Kijiji, and every once in a while you get lucky. My most recent find was the rear window support bar... Took a few months to find one but randomly came up on Kijiji and was in my city. Ironically, I now have three first gen centre consoles, despite only really needing to fix the hinge and re-cover the lid of the one in my project vehicle.
