Hi, I just got my 4Runner 2000 a few months ago and want to have a feedback from this community.
As now I have my first issue and I was wondering if somebody can give an advice.
there was a engine light which after I put the scanner shows a P0120 code.
I replaced the TPS sensor, also cleaned the throttle and filter but the problem persist. Has anybody had the same issue? if so, how got fix?
    thank you in advance

    Regards
    Pablo

Did you clear the code after you replaced the TPS?

So reading on this code, I'm seeing that it's comparing 2 sensors. TPS vs Pedal Position Sensor. If either are out of whack, you get the code.

I thought the 2000's didn't have the "drive by wire" so they don't have the Pedal Position Sensor.

Is the engine original to the car? What year and month and country was the car manufactured?

    Morning,
I tried to but, it did't go away!
Somebody came with a better scan and ran a diagnostic, the problem seems to be the ECU.
I already pull it out but, do you happen to know if I buy an used one will work? or need to be programmed necessarily?
    The piece number is 89666-35140 5VZ 4 X 4 A/T
I will appreciate any help that you guys can rpovide
    Thank you in advance

That's something I don't know. I think a used one should work. You need to make sure that you get the same one for the engine you have.

There is a manufacturer's sticker on the door jam that tells the manufacture date. "Drive by Wire" started in August 2000. I assumed this meant that was for the start of the 2001 changeover.

Did your TPS have 3 or 4 pins?

Also...you may have a break/short in the wiring harness causing this issue. I would rule that out. You should test the TPS values at the ECU if you can.

The guy at the bottom of this thread has the exact same problem. He swapped in a new TPS 3 times and figures it is a short.

thanks I saw that video too.
we troubleshoot the wiring and the actual piece but, the problem comes from the ECU.
Somebody with an advance tech (scanner pad that reads all the values) came and did the diagnostic, now I need to buy it and swap it to see if the problem get solve.
the only problem is that the ECU apparently needs to be programmed.
thanks for your help. I will post the resolution

Did the video say it needed programming? I watched 2/3 of it (beginning and end). The guy who makes those videos never leaves out any steps. I would just try it without programming first.
