Question for 2019 4Runner owners with SiriusXM radio.

The 4 way button on left side of steering wheel. The up down arrow scrolls up and down through the preset stations I have set.

The left right arrow will scroll either up or down through all stations but randomly jump from say channel 18 to 70. Will not just got through every station.

    Anybody else see this?

It may depend on what Sirius/XM package you have. Other than that I’ve not noticed it in my 18 or 19

I forget what way does what. One cycles through presets and the other goes channel to channel but I think it cycles in a category like rock, rap or whatever group your in

    For Run >> I think that’s it.

    Up/down arrow cycles through presets.

    L/R as described below.

If I hit my channel 7 (pop) preset and the try to scroll it scrolls only through pop stations. If I start on preset 18 (rock) it will only scroll rock stations.

Not what I’m used to but now I Capish

I also learned you cannot delete presets. Only save a new one. They can be changed just not deleted.

But I think I got it.

I went and preset the stations I like but when needing to go up/down XM channels I just do it from the steering wheel radio ^v button.

btw off topic but I took the deal for like 150.00 for a year (prem-every channel) but then it auto renews at something stupid like 300 or so .... I plan to cancel and then take another "deal" as XM always run a special.

Just wondering if others are planning the same strategy ? .. or any tips for other XM noobs ?

ouch, shop around, used to be 25 for 6 months, now 60 a year plus fees for select. has online streaming included Trick is call before it renews. If they don't allow it, ask for cancellation department, they will renew at low rate. Sometimes you need to call back, once I just canceled. waited a week and they gave me the deal

Before your current subscription ends, call them and tell them you want to cancel. They'll throw some random deal at you. Tell them no again. They'll offer you another deal. Tell them no.

I think you need to tell them no 3 times before they get to the lowest price for your current subscription (~$5-7/month for 5 or 6 months).

Then either accept that or cancel for real. Then you'll probably get a promotional email with a low price "deal" within a few days.

To the OP's original question: yep, when you use the side to side scrolling function from the steering wheel, it simply scrolls through the genre you're currently listening to (rock, pop, jazz, etc). This has always annoyed me. I wish it scrolled through all the stations (like when you use the tuning dial on the head unit).

That's the lowest price I've heard of in a long time. In 2014-2015 I'd get the $4.99 price for 5 months at a time (after calling to cancel and jumping through the hoops). The last couple years it's been more like $36-48 for 5 or 6 months (random amounts/duration).

If you can get $4.99 dialed in for any length of time, and you want the service, I'd jump on that.

They are also able to pro-rate, so even if your current paid subscription has three months left (for example), it's worth calling to give them your notice of cancellation. And they might start you on a new plan right now if there's a promotion running. They'll offer a lower price (again, jump through the three "NO hoops" to get there). When you get to an acceptable subscription price, accept it.

If they can keep you for even a month or two beyond the date you're cancelling from, they'll do it (assuming you're calling now to cancel your "renew" in 3 months). I don't know if that makes sense.

Example: I have 3 months left on my current subscription. I'm going to call them TODAY to cancel the auto-renew (in 3 months). And tell them I just heard of a recent promotion of $4.99/month and ask if they can do that. They'll probably say yes (if in fact they ARE running a promotion). Then they'll take what I've already paid for the next three months and apply that to the 12 month promotion, starting tomorrow. So I'll be out of my contract that was to end in three months, and I'll have a new 12 month contract at the new price.

    Make sense?

I haven't experienced this in our 2019 SR5 Premium. I rarely deviate from channels 7, 26, 18, 34 and 114. I have recently been watching the PBS series on country music. While I was never a big fan of country, this series on PBS has gotten me to start listening to channel 59 (Willie's Roadhouse), old school country. I find some appreciation for the genre now.

One more thing.... we purchased something that is no longer available on Sirius Radio: a lifetime subscription. Back in 2007, when we bought our previous Mustang, an '07 GT, we took the plunge and bought the lifetime, which Sirius still honors to this day. Best money I have ever spent. I couldn't live without my satellite radio. When we sold the '07 GT, we had the subscription transfer to the new 4Runner. I haven't subscribed to Sirius in the Shelby. That car makes its own music, if you know what I mean.

Exactly I do this every time it's a PITA but f them! I always call them a week before running out and tell them I want to cancel when they ask why tell them you don't use it enough for the cost. Bingo... Sit back and watch the offers fly. If you can't come to an agreement cancel for real and within a month they'll mail you a "come back" offer. Just another aggravating expense in your life.

So I think I have a plan to satisfy my need to scan. I printed out the Sirius XM channel guide. If I make my presets the first channel in each genre I can scan through that entire genre. Example the first channel in the POP genre is channel 2 so if I make that a preset I can start there and scan up through every pop station Then hit the first Preset for Rock and scan up every rock station. I liked my Chevy radio better but now that I have a system figured out I am OK. Thought my radio was F'd up. It was just me.

I have the 12 months @4.99 for the 4 runner charged every month and on my Tundra I paid 60 flat out for the year. I just cancel before it expires and wait for a new offer

When I lived in Arizona and commuted 150 miles per day to work and back, Sirius was lifesaver.

My new Fords came with 6 months free. Then I moved up to the Northwest and now have a 14-mile commute. I bought a new Ram pickup that came with it and discovered that it didn't work when I was in the mountains in tall trees or in town near taller buildings.

I've found that I don't really need to be constantly entertained for my 20 minute commute. I let the Ram's subscription expire and never missed it.

It's like most things. A fee for convenience. I have over 100gig in digital music. Buddy at board of trade said they got together and shared music. I'm in chicago and HD music works great, i can stream from 50 million HD songs online.
My point, dunno sometimes it's easier to turn on XM and surf the channels vs searching on a phone.
Now CarPlay and android auto is changing the game. Simply say hey google or siri, pick a song or artist and bam, those 50 million songs are just there!

Exactly ! To keep current customers happy they should just offer a lowest price renew guarantee, especially since everyone knows about the specials anyway.

Any luck with the side arrows? Yesterday morning I was able to scroll from 1 thru 114. After lunch it was category/genre only.

    Pretty much the same here. Channels 7, 8, 18, 26, 25, 17 and occasionally, Willie's Roadhouse on channel 59.

Cancelled when the last subscription ran out, figured I'd give apple music a try. This way I can just download everything I want, and it lets my son put what he wants on his iPad. Like $16ish for the family deal

Pinstripes, lots of em. Plus a couple dents.
I like being hip and up to date, so I listen to the Pop channel - 02. They play the same 10 songs over and over.
Watermelon Sugar High - what a horrible song! At least I know who Post Malone is now. Always thought he was a hardcore rap guy with all those face tattoos.

Recently I've been listening to the comedy stations that start around 95.
