6th Gen T4R

Alright. Enough is enough.

When is the next gen coming out? Anyone have the word on this and any other tidbits (ie 8 speed or 9, turbo engine? MPG’s etc)

I know someone in here knows and has answers. Your secret is safe with me.

 

Came out last month. on dealer lots now? 5.0 765hp V8, 3" lift and 35s from the factory

Some leaks indicated 2022, so we might get our hands on them in about a year. I told my dealer today to put me on a list, I want one as soon as possible. Unless new land cruiser drops before new 4runner.

 

Somewhere around October 2022 (2023 Model Year).

More than likely there will be a 4cyl turbo option and a hybrid option. I'm not sure about a 6cyl option yet.

I'm guessing 8 speed trans.

 

I would love to see a hybrid option, if well executed.

 

One thing I fear is that they will transfer production to the US.

Not that I'm anti US production, I just really like the quality that comes from the Tahara factory.

 

Might be waiting for a new Land cruiser for a while. Its supposedly leaving the US market in 2022, and it seems uncertain whether Toyota will replace it. I think the talk around them redesigning it for a different market segment is far fetched. Toyota hasn't effectively marketed them ever since they released the first Lexus SUV.
People love the v8 engine in the LC but I will bet that any replacement will come with a v6, having a large gas guzzler V8 (outside of the Tundra) doesn't fit into Toyota's image.
The only reason the Land Cruiser is still around is because Toyota doesn't want to kill their oldest running name plate in the US. If they had not cared it would of been discontinued long ago. People blame the FJ cruiser being discontinued on poor sales, well the FJ sold over 3 times as much as the LC did the final year it was sold. I'm sorry to rain on your parade but I don't see that happening.

 

Sadly; net company emissions means more & thirsty vehicles will go away. I don't remember the numbers but it is the reason Ford doesn't make a single passenger car besides the mustang! Every company has to have a "net level" unless low production.
This is why we still have the 4.0l in the T4R. All the Prius owners are saving us!

2023 (so summer 2022 would be buy time) with V6 and hybrid option. I just hope the get the interior right.

Nearly all of their cars come in hybrid models, so I'm sure the technology has been refined a bit already.

If the following is true, I bet the new twin-turbo hyrbrid V6 will have the top 4runner costing upwards of $65,000.

An all-new Tundra pickup will drop in the fourth quarter of 2021 and sit on a TNGA-F platform, forming the basis for new 4Runners and Sequoias due in 2022. None of these trucks will be available with a V8. Instead, a twin-turbo hybrid V6 will be the top engine option.

It refers to the following

• New manufacturing methodology - more shared and common parts across different models, i.e. steering wheels, radio controls, seats, structural components, stereos, etc.
• Flexible platform that would underpin upcoming vehicles, similar to VWAG's MLB platform.

I hope the next generation is the same size or smaller and narrower than the current generation to differentiate it from the sequoia. Also would like it to have a manual transmission which wont happen. I hope the base price starts at most 39,000 and is based off the tacoma. I would like to see an l6 engine configuration but that also wont happen. It would be nice to move away from such an angular front that has many random cuts to something more basic and boxy.

 

4runner is already smaller than the soccer mom Sequoia.

I wouldn't be surprised if base price jumps to $40,000. Just keeps climbing up every year if it seems.

 

Although they will be on the same TNGA-F platform, I don't think the 4Runner will have the twin turbo V6 like the tundra and sequoia.

If we're lucky, we'll get a single turbo V6, but my best guess at the moment is a turbo 4 cyl option and a hybrid option.

I agree. The twin turbo will be relegated to the LC, Sequoia, and Tundra. I expect we will see a V6, Hybrid, and maybe a turbo 4.

 

So as usual. We'll have to go aftermarket if we want the extra hp. Lame since they took the V8 option away.

 

The V8 didn't give you much power over the V6 anyways......so even with the V8 you had to go aftermarket if you wanted to get anything out of it.

We'll have to see how it plays out, but it's possible the hybrid version of the 4runner offers more torque than the other engine offered (whatever it might be). So at least you'll be able to pull bigger tires a little easier with the hybrid

I'm not scared of a 4cyl turbo either. Just to give a little perspective, Fords 4cyl 2.3L Ecoboost offers more horsepower and torque than both the 4L and the V8 in the 4runner. Yes, we know Ford isn't exactly the model of reliability, but if Toyota puts one in the 4Runner, I would have no problem trusting its reliability.

They've had one in the Lexus IS for a few years now. The 2L turbo specs actually aren't too far from our 4L specs. And that turbo is de-tuned a bit for reliability purposes.

 

You guys are way off the mark. It's going to be a rebadged Pathfinder with Toyota's contribution being a rebadged 1.5 liter turbo 3 from BMW.
