    Hello all

Not a total newb, this is my third 4Runner, second 5th gen. But this is my first modified one.

THIS IS NOT complaining about my mpg. I didn’t buy my runner to sip gas. I just want to see if I need to have it looked at. A simple “naw that seems about right” or “heck naw take it to your mechanic” will suffice.

2019 TRD pro. Leveled. 275/65/17 falken wild peaks (heavy af but love them), pedal commander in city mode. I’m getting 13mpg in city traffic. LOTS of stop and go. Short trips (<2mi). On highway probably 17.

Is this something I should have looked at or just enjoy??

Normal. Heavy tires and stop and go kills MPG’s, especially your short trips. Your highway is about spot on.

It’s fine, nothing to worry about because I sometimes get the same mpg driving a little aggressively, no mods at all

Hey brenorman, I think you're in the range. here's what mine looks like 12.5 - ~13 or so, depending on how hard I'm driving it. Ok, this is metric, but 12.6 L/100KM, translates roughly to 18.6 US. There are guys on here reporting in the 20's! My 4 Runner is modded with bumpers, a winch and K02s, and a roof rack. So, a bit of weight, but nothing too crazy.
I don't drive with mileage in mind, but I do live in a small town, and rarely sit in traffic. There have been lots of mileage discussions and what always intrigues me is the variance you see from different areas of the country, ethanol, weight, season, personal driving habits, inaccuracy of the calculation, etc etc. So many factors.

Thanks everyone. I think it’s heavy foot (I tend to like to get “to speed” quickly, hence the pedal commander), heavy tires- but wanted load C and the falkens are one of two in 275/65/17 in old C, and level kit. Oh well.
TBH a difference in 13 vs 17 mph saves $50/mo and $600/yr. I see that as “rent” on the pleasure of driving the car I want and enjoy!!

Make that 27/mo and 320/yr. I only drive like 8000 mi per year.

A bit of higher gearing with the bigger tires too, more than weight probably. My K02s are E range, heavy, but stock size. Hey, like I tell myself, it is what it is. Back in the bad old days it would be considered pretty good mileage for a 4x4 truck.

Just one more voice saying your MPG numbers seem in range. I typically see 13 or so in stop and go city driving, and my rig is stock.

While I have been getting 20+ on long highway trips, again there's no lift or heavier / AT tires or similar mods. Also, while those trips involved a lot of mid-70 to mid-80 MPH and some hills, I was careful not to burn gas for no reason (eg flooring it when lesser pressure would suffice).

I once had my buddy drive my rig on a road trip. He got an average 11mpg on a full tank of gas which was 99% highway. Saying he has a lead foot is an understatement. I drove and I was getting 16mpg and my rig and it’s not stock.

my SR5, totally stock including original tires gets around 19 on the hwy. I'm no expert but I don't think you're too bad if it's set up for off road

My biggest negative effect on gas mileage was installation of a roof rack. Stock-sized tires that were E-Rated, very heavy, and more aggressive tread also did it in. After a 2.5 lift and leveling kit, gas mileage actually went up a bit. I'm currently averaging 18.4. Going to 33" MTs next month, so will probably get another hit and never see 18mpg again, lol.

Blacked out badges, window deflectors, smoked 3rd brake light. I have a Borla muffler on order as well as some color matched engine cover stickers. I'll be painting the stock wheels soon as well. Falken tires in the fall as well.
Yeah probably just about right especially if you have a heavy foot. The only mod I have that would affect mileage are stock size Wildpeaks. I average around 17 and the best all highway I've gotten was 21 using cruise and not going below 65 MPH and at times 75.

I have been reading quite a few discussions on MPG. Seems my average of 17.5 is on par with everyone else (I have Wildpeaks, no mods). I did take it for a 200-mile loop on the freeway and highway. That tank was almost 19. For an offroad rig, I am happy.

I have seen mid 19 mpg readings on longer highway drives over 300 miles, think 19.8 was my best. I have Nitto Terra Grapplers in stock size, half roof basket with a gun case installed. This is with the truck loaded with people/dogs/cargo. High 17s, low 18s around town. I am happy with the mileage I get from it.

    I drive slow......like 60mph on the highway and get 22mpg .
    I get an average of 20mpg city/highway.
sticker on new vehicle says 17/19 is average,so not bad.

Stock 2020 Limited with 5200 miles. Computer says I've gotten 19.1 since I reset it 4900 miles ago. About 2/3rds of these miles are highway (albeit with a lot of hills and high speeds). Mrmike saying he gets 22 mpg driving at 60 mph -- that's consistent with my experience. I dare say that's doable even closer to 70.

Edit: I should add that I trust the computer because my mpg calculations at the pump are very consistent with the computer's estimate.

All in all, after everything i've done... I'm averaging 17.3... down from 19.3. I'll take it...

Similar experience here... Staying usually around 65mph on the highway, and my commute has been 2/3 highway vs city. Averaging 16.7mpg. That is with BFG KO2 c load 285, and Ironman foam cell pro stage 2 lift.

    17.11 mpg
    19.5 mpg
    17.52 mpg
    18.8 mpg

I have only had my 2020 TOR for 10 days. We have put 1,000 miles on it.

I tested the computer against math...lol. It is pretty close to spot on (for my vehicle).

Heading out this weekend we did a 600-mile round trip. All on freeway or highways. Averaging about 80 mph on I-15. We averaged 20.9 (so 21?) Heading up and bucked a damn headwind coming down with the same average speed and got just over 18.

The tank of gas before that trip we averaged 17.9 that was quite a bit of around town and some freeway. We are running brand new Wildpeaks in stock size.

This is on par with our old Pilot we traded-in. I will take these numbers all day long.

Note: this is unladen for the most part.
