4090 miles on stock suspension and my wife finally realizes the need for a suspension upgrade. With that said, I am looking at Toytec Boss series but I am open to any suggestions since they are on backorder. I currently have a Ready Lift SST 3/2 with diff drop. I plan on adding UCA's also.

Hey MSBIGRED, welcome to the forum! Toytec Boss is made by Elka, and is a premium system. I have an Elka 2.5 IFP and JBA UCAs on mine and it’s fantastic. A huge improvement.

Thanks for the information, Oldtoyotaguy. The only problem after deciding which one to get is the supply issue.

I know Elka is a small company in Quebec, Canada, and they basically make these systems as custom orders individually when you order directly. However, Toytec has a relationship with them, and I’m sure they’ll get priority service in supplying any back orders.

I would think after 1 mile on spacers I’d be ready for a suspension upgrade too:rofl: I’ve heard very mixed reviews about the toytec boss system, seems that most people say it doesn’t ride as expected and they ditch it. Contact @HeadStrong Off-Road , they’re very helpful and have really good prices!

Toytec has several systems, it’s the aluma series that’s made by Elka. I’m assuming it’s the same as one you’d get from directly ordering from Elka. I don’t doubt you, Mtbpsych, but it’s hard to believe anyone would “ditch” a high end system made by Elka. Wow, they’re fantastic, and I’ve never seen one being sold anywhere. If you see one for a good price my advice would be to snap it up! Haha. I guess some people can’t tell the difference between fools gold and the real thing!

Were talking boss, not alumaseries. They look like a night and day difference in quality. Like I said though, I’ve heard, i can’t confirm though :notsure:

Thanks guys. I appreciate the information. I'll update once I decide to take the plunge and can get some miles on them. I checked on some Kings from Showstoppers (great price).

Have you taken a trip with the actual stock suspension? Leveling kits degrade performance--not that the stock suspension is necessarily fabulous, unless you have KDSS or XREAS which limit roll/dive, but you're not really comparing like for like here.

Toffees, yes this is my 4th 4 Runner and I had hoped the stock suspension on the TRD would be an improvement over the SR5 but I was wrong. I wanted the height to clear 33's but it definately requires pavement for a smooth ride. The nose dive and body roll are still pretty bad and probably made worse with the spacer lift.

Well I don't mean to be tedious, but you've installed a leveling kit and are you also running 33s? No wonder the "stock suspension" feels lacking.

It's not my money and I haven't run these yet, but if I were replacing mine without lift I would grab the King OEM series and get on living life. I can't advise on what to run with a small lift, and there are cheaper options as well.

I agree with you, MSBIGRED, I have KDSS on my ORP, and I’m happy now that it has a stiffer suspension. But in fairness to Toyota, it’s vehicles are not set up for heavy off road use, but for mild trails and highways. That soft suspension is comfortable, especially for the vast majority of customers in the US market. Fortunately, it’s easy to correct. Just choose the technology you want and add money. The more you add, the better it is.
