I accidentally overtightened the drain bolt on the transmission pan and now I have a really slow leak (just a bead of transmission fluid on the bolt no dripping or fluid on the ground that I have noticed). I figured since the 4runner has 210k miles and new transmission fluid I would just try to cover the leak and never change the fluid again. First I cleaned the bolt with brake cleaner, then I tried Permatex spray sealer and that didn't work. Then I tried more brake cleaner and JB weld but its still leaking. Have any of you have success stoping a leak with a different product? Should I just do more brake cleaner and JB weld? Or do I have to take the pan off without taking the drain bolt out, make a huge mess and replace the pan?IMG_4520.jpg

Transmission pan is kind of easy to remove. You can change the filter while you're in there as well as the pan.

You stripped the pan and not the bolt, correct? Bolt won't come out?

If it'll come out, You can probably use a magnetic plug like Jiffy Lube does when they destroy oil pans.

I would pull the pan re tap it and get a new bolt. Did you use a new washer when you re installed the plug? You don't wanna re use the old one.
