Unsolicited offers on your Pro?

This past weekend I was "up north" for a vacation, and one of the condo owners on the resort approached me and complimented the Pro. He said his wife was very interested, and that every couple of years he buys her a new toy to drive around. We parted ways, ran into each other a couple of more times, and on the last day he gave me his card and told me to contact him when I am ready to sell. He specifically wants my Inferno Orange for her.

I've never had this happen with any other vehicle I have owned. That leads me to a few questions.

• How many of you have received offers from serious buyers willing to purchase on the spot?
• How much have you been offered?
• How much would it take for you to part ways?

 

It happened alot with my 1999 Tacoma from about 2010 on. always in the low ball range $2000-3000. People want them for the reliability no matter the miles.

I also think that your color is the rarest one so that ups the ante.

When I sold my Tacoma in 2018, my new 4 Runner was in the driveway. The guy paid a very high price for the Taco - it was extra cool. He looked over at the 4 Runner and gave me his business card and said “in three years don’t advertise it, just give me a call and I’ll buy it”.

I dont know if its the rarest based on the numbers I just know you never see them on the road. When I was considering used I never found one while looking. ableit it was only a few months I was looking.

 

Before buying my venture, I offered my friend to buy his orange pro. I really hope toyota brings it to a pro again, I’m buying it right away. I love that color.

 

I was offered $51K on a trade in for a Rubicon. I just couldn't do it. I like my Pro way too much and I didn't want drive another Jeep especially not at the prices they are commanding now.

 

I’m hearing reports that in certain areas of the country, the average price of used cars are selling for 2 to $3,000 more than last year. Due to higher demand because people are avoiding public transportation.
I‘ve been seeing more notes left on windshields of older Japanese cars offering to buy.

I was talking to the dealer the other day when I took my 4R in for maintenance. They were saying everything was sold out (TACO/4R) due to the Covid. The lots were empty last week. 2021 models are delayed shipping to the dealers as well. So I wouldn't doubt everyone wants one and now trying to buy people's 4r.

 

I spent much of April & May looking for my 4 runner. They had plenty on the lots and discounted by 3-4 thousand. At one brief point Toyota was offering $1500 cash back on the 4 runner. (that went away quickly!) I had to make an appointment just to look at one and talk to a salesperson. Got mine in late May, shortly after, the deals started going away. My salesman said It's been downhill ever since, the lots became empty and no new 2021's coming in yet

 

I have a 1st generation and can’t leave my garage open because of the solicitors.

I’m flattered but gets kind of weird. I do like to throw out crazy $$ to see what they say

 

Couple months ago I was eating breakfast outside with my son outside on the curb next to the truck, we were starting a 4 day overlanding trip off with our favorite breakfast. Some random dude came over and wanted to trade me for his clapped out piece of shit stanced Subaru.

 

I've had my 4runner for 6 months, when I was at the dealership I test drove a Tundra. A few weeks ago, the dealership called and asked if I was still interested in the Tundra, they really wanted my 4Runner. They made it clear that they would do whatever was needed to get me into the Tundra if I was interested.

 

It never hurts to ask.

 

These vintage 4Runners are in high demand. Just like the old muscle car that everyone wants! It would be fun to have an older vintage vehicle to drive and upgrade. I've seen several various muscle cars, older Japanese vans and older GTR's on the road as of late. Yesterday I saw the older bronco with hardshell removable top in mint condition, as well as an old Chevy Silverado all jacked up.

 

You should see the tv show Jay Leno's Garage....think he has a website also. He has an original Bronco that got a restoration that was insane $$$
He put a Ford Cobra engine in it and modified suspension, new frame, the interior and exterior look ford stock. A real sleeper and super sharp looking.

I saw the show, and like the Bronco. But a Cobra engine in that vintage of vehicle made me laugh. Strictly Beverly Hills.

It's all about the numbers and what most of the buyers want in a new ride.

I've been regretting getting rid of my gen3 4Runner for a car back in 2004.
Oh well, that's water under the bridge now.

 

Yeah, for sure, I’ve had several early gen hi luxe’s that we just took for granted back in the day and just drove the heck out of them on and off road. I wish I still had a couple of them now.

 

I dont plan on getting rid of this Gen 5 for the very same reason. Its the last true truck based SUV. Its simple (relatively) and will only get more capable with age.

 

Any dealer will feed a costumer that same line even if you had a 2010 ford escape and I'm not kidding. Salesman sleeze 101
