Trunk mount bike racks? (Rather than hitch mounted)

Looking to pick up a low budget rack to carry my bikes. I’d really like to use it with both my 4runner and Ford C-Max which doesn’t have a hitch. Anybody used a trunk mount they liked? Anybody used a trunk mount that actually damaged their 4Runner?

 

I have a pretty cheap hatch rack that I bought some years ago for hauling bikes on a minivan. It did a decent job. It had some foam rubber pads on a couple of aluminum tubes that rested on the back glass and nylon straps with hooks that attached to the top and bottom of the hatch. It was similar to this one.

The thing I'd worry about with that kind of rack for a 4Runner is the straps would have to go over the top of the plastic/fiberglass spoiler, placing a lot of force on something that I'm not sure would handle it well.

 

I think all of those would apply pressure to the rear glass. I'm sure they are tested to not damage the glass but I have serious reservations about using them. Personally I'd add a hitch to the C-Max and use a hitch hauler between the two of them.

 

Just carry your bikes inside the 4Runner or stow them on a rooftop carrier. I do both with my 2020 TRD OR since I need my hitch for towing my trailer.

Sold at least a couple 100 of these over my 12 years managing a bike shop. No doubt hitch racks are the best but if you're looking for just one rack to work on multiple style cars and SUV's, this is the one. Rock solid and works well for a Hollywood style rack. Great customer service as well.
