2019 TRD Pro Fox Suspension vs Bilsteins on 2016 SR5?

    I recently moved from a 2006 Tacoma to a 2016 4Runner, so I am new to these forums.

    I had been researching suspension upgrades and have narrowed down to a Bilstein kit. I was about to pull the trigger when I came across a posting for a 2019 TRD Pro suspension for sale for $750. Details are as follows:

    These came off of a 2019 Toyota 4Runner TRD PRO at approx 43k miles. Has seen its fair share of off road time so there are some scratches but they are cosmetic. Otherwise, everything has been kept damage free. All original hardware included.
    - Front TRD pro fox shocks with a 2in cornfed spacer lift
    - Rear TRD pro fox shocks w/ rooster shield protectant
    - Dobinsons rear coil springs stock height model number C59-323 w/ a pair of 1in corned fed spacers

    Worth it at $750? or just ignore and move forward with Bilstein?

    Welcome to the forum from Wisconsin.. someperson39. If it were my choice, I'd go with the Bilsteins, had them on a Tacoma, they worked well.

    Elka is probably better than both of them. Have you checked them out? Oldtoyotaguy can tell you about them

    With new bushings, this should be a solid kit. You couldn't get equivalent equipment for the price. Having said that, spend another few hundred and you could have a brand new set of 6112's for the front, and 5150's for the rear. Getting a set of 5100's is inferior to this setup (sorry to anyone in advance, sue me).

    That was my thought process.... ie would anyone with a TRD Pro take off and switch to a Bilstein 5100 setup? I would say 99.9% of people wouldnt.

    I had bilstein 5100s on my tacoma before this and enjoyed them but thought it would be cool to try something else out. I think I might give them a shot, and worst case..I can turn around and sell them off for about the same and go to bilsteins.

    I don't want to dissuade you. So if you really want these, then get them. But just a couple of things to think about.

    These already have 40k miles on them, they had a good amount of offroad use, and a spacer was used on them. Adding the spacer means that the shock had the potential of bottoming out much more often during use. They are $750 and not rebuildable (as far as I know).

    For me and my peace of mind, I would get something like a 2.0 adjustable coilover instead. You'll pay a little more, but at least you'll know they haven't been beat.

    Or at the very least, I'd look for some takeoffs that someone removed from their brand new Pro because they wanted to put some Kings on.

    I have 2020 fox Pros on my Venture and love them. I would buy them and get them rebuilt. Its a $2k plus suspension for half the price.

    The foxes are awesome but with that many miles, you probably want to send them in for rebuild.

    $750 is probably a bit high

    The shocks are not rebuildable.

    I have the Bilstein pro shocks on my truck, but they were pulled off before the first service and were in much better shape for about the same price.

    With almost 50K of use (plus offroad and spacers) I'd just spend the extra money on a similar 2.0 or 6112/5160 as others mentioned.

    So Ive done some research and it looks like you can send them directly into fox to be rebuilt. For about 500 for the set. Apparently Toyota just replaces them with brand new ones during the service and sends the used ones back to Fox to be refurbed. With this info I might be able to negotiate the seller down even more to make it worth while to rebuid.

    I guess my last question is if you could get rebuilt TRD PRO Fox for around 1k. Would you do it?

    I wouldn't. I'm sure the shocks are great and all, but 1k for refurbished TRD shocks is too pricey, IMO.

    I'd rather buy brand new 2.0's for that price tag.

    Is the rear springs that Toyota uses for the 2019 Trd Pro Fox suspension same as all other models?

    does any one know of the color codes on the rear springs ?
    i have been told that limited 4runners have a different rear spring does anyone know if that is true & why ?
    i am as well thinking about installing Trd Pro Fox suspension just trying to gather all my info before i get started thanks

    My 2014 limited has dark green and orange rear coils. It appears they get about an inch less left than orange and pink coils.

    I've been searching for the actual spring rate numbers(stock suspension). From what info i found... front is 560-580 and rear is 180.

    Since 4runner come all raked out now, you could always swap in orange and green rear springs to lower the rear and level it out. (But I don't know many people who lower their 4runner).
