Hi everyone, have had a 2020 4Runner Venture. Love it except for Apple CarPlay...and I'm pretty positive the problems have nothing to do with CarPlay, but the infotainment software in the 4Runner...here's my annoyance:

When you're using either Apple Maps or Google Maps (or Waze), there's no way to control the voice volume for the navigation instructions. If you're listening to SiriusXM, for example, and the voice navigation chimes in, you can't lower the volume.

In my Ford with Sync 3, you could adjust the volume when you heard navigation prompts from one of these apps, but in the 4Runner, it doesn't work. There's about a dozen other things I can't stand about the Toyota infotainment system, but I'll keep it to this particular issue.

    Any ideas out there?

-Yes, I've checked the threads on CarPlay (in this forum and others, so if I missed a solution, my apologies!)
-Yes, I'm running the latest Toyota infotainment firmware (v 1047)
-Yes, I have the latest iOS (13.7)
-Have an iPhone XS, but that shouldn't matter
-Yes, I have tried the "up down" volume buttons on the phone to try and adjust the volume in Apple Maps/Google Maps
-I have the "base" infotainment system (not JBL)

The radio is the only disappointing feature in my view. I don’t have apple car play, and Alexa only works when Entune is on which I don’t use because the audio is degraded so badly.

Agreed, and it's just software. Whoever is writing the software for Toyota/CarPlay needs to take a few lessons from Ford (hate to say that)...

Volume control is there. Not where it should be. Not near the manual but I'm sure it's there, I got mine to go to a lower volume.
Only thing disappointing with this system is instructions that stink

No worries man! At first I wanted to say that you should adjust with car controls when Siri/Nav voice talking... and then I tried it and it didn’t work, so looked in settings and learned smth new too :)

It SHOULD work this way, but that would be too easy and convenient. Toyota decided it would make more sense to go three levels deep to adjust the volume...what a horrible infotainment system. A few edits to software from engineers that have some basic understanding of good UX design would take it from horrible to decent...we'll see with future firmware updates. Setting my expectations low to avoid disappointments :)

Thank you for this! I couldn’t figure it out either, was driving me crazy. Made Waze unusable for me...
