What have you done to your 5th Gen 4Runner today?

I have had Vettes for years. This one I have now is the keeper. Last year with a manual the way it looks with Chevy. I have a 19 Z06. It’s a beast. 650hp supercharged.

 

Just put in my RCI engine skid plate order since they are having labor day weekend sale, 15%.

My son and I installed the TRD Pro Exhaust on my 18 ORP. Took our time and it was a nice easy installation. It always helps to have to right tools for the job.

OK sounds GOOD, my FRIEND. We are all entitled to OUR own OPINIONS man, so no reason to get on me about it. I think they are ugly and Toyota is making poor choices in their newer models just to fuel a trendy market. They are scared to make any changes, this is why we see subtle changes like a cooler, a ugly 2" bar rack, grey wheels. The only major changes they've made is adding sensors, and even those are getting bad reviews. Next few models will introduce a hybrid. Then they'll get rid of the solid axle and no one will want one.

They definitely don't seem to like taking risks.

If executed well, a hybrid might be a good option. Electric torque would be excellent for towing and certain off-road situations. I'm just not keen on losing cargo space and adding weight to fit batteries.

I don't see this happening, but I agree that no one would want one. With independent rear suspension, the 4runner would just be an overweight Highlander. I think Toyota knows the 4runner's market. And, I hope they continue to design it for the off-roading community.

 

I still have a couple iPod classics. Apple gave me a new 5.5G 80gb after mine stopped working. Shortly after I bought a 7G 160gb because I needed more storage. It didn't get along with my radio, and about that time USB drives started having enough storage, so I switched to using that. Not really a fan of streaming. Bluetooth with Entune isn't great either.

 

20s have Android auto, sounds good as it can. Even brightens crappy stock speakers

 

I have a 19. I think the stock speakers sound decent. Better than my Tacoma anyway. I just like starting the truck and music starts. No need to wait for things to connect.

The range of the Bluetooth is good though. If I drive by friends house, his phone will connect.

 

Finally some new wheels. Stock tires for now. Hopefully will get it lifted soon.

Jeep did this with their grand Cherokee's (no longer having solid axle) and everything went down hill from there, no longer was the Grand an SUV people would buy for serious wheelin. The jeep grand Cherokee was arguably more popular than the 4runner is now, then. Everyone had a lifted grand with 35's LOL. One guy I knew put on 44's on a Cherokee sport.

Also I dont know if the new Jeep Gladiator's are even that popular now days. Jeep released them trying to make the Comanche come back I believe and I hardly ever see one unless its an insanely modified/prototype marketing machine. A good example of introducing changes to a product that flops.

 

I saw these a while ago and would love to modify mine. In Japan (where the 4Runner is made) the folding mirror is standard in 100% of the vehicles. Such a great idea.

I got the "blemished" Rago Molle panels for the 5th gen. If you look closely at the lower left of the passenger's side one that I test fit on my truck before painting it, you can see the tiny part where the laser shouldn't have gone. It's a tiny problem that I'm probably going to cover up with stuff anyway. The driver's side one was perfect, too. $50 off and not having to wait 2-6 weeks for them to make the panels makes me a happy camper. They shipped out next day and arrived today.

After doing the test fit, I painted the panels for both sides. They're currently drying overnight. I also tried filling in the hole with an old Mack's earplug before painting. It doesn't look like it's a seamless fix, but I'll see tomorrow how well the fill fix worked.

 

As long as they stay away from CVT transmissions it’ll be fine.

 

I finished painting yesterday and installed today my new Rago Molle Panels. The "blemished" part is a total non-issue. Well worth the money and very welcome savings with the "blemished" status. Very happy with it. I'm seriously considering getting the shelf that goes across the two panels.

 

Another round of quarantine boredom projects as I wait for new coil overs and upper arms to arrive; which will hopefully ship this week. Did spindle gussets this weekend, and prepped for marlin crawler gusset install, which should arrive this week.
