3rd Gen. 4Runner REAR Long Travel Suspension

Hello, I have been navigating across internet (forums, Camburg, Total Chaos, Downey, Race-Dezert, Google images, friends, local shops, facebook, etc... etc....) and still have not seen any 3rd Gen 4Runner with a suspension type (4 link independent I think it is called) like the one shown in the attached picture (which I took from Picsant.com. If the claim copyright, I'll remove this picture ASAP).


I have ONLY seen FRONT long travel kits, which widens the front suspension 3.5" each side, leaving and ugly view of the truck with the rear tires narrower.

Some peopple tell me that Deaver Leaf Springs are the best choice, but honestly I don't like Leaf Springs.

I am not a rich man, but regardless of the price, I would like to know if somebody in the world already added a REAR LONG TRAVEL SUSPENSION to his/her 3rd Gen. 4Runner. Any shop that can make quotations ? Pictures ?

i think the majority go the easier route and spring under the rear with leafs.

 

Feel like most people who run links go the custom route. Leafs definitely the easier and cheaper option.

 

This is the only one I've ever seen linked. Not much actual 4Runner left since this one was basically a race truck. I think because of where the shocks come through the cab you'd have to make it a 3 seater at best with a bucket seat inbetween the rear shocks. There isn't really any good close-ups of the rear links from what I saw either.

Check out cantilever setups, the coilovers sit horizontal under the body instead of coming up inside the cab/body.

 

I believe he sold it years ago, which is why the build thread on DR has Photobucket links that don't work.

Like mentioned, cantilever is probably the best method to avoid shocks in the cab. Links or leafs will net the most travel, but both have their compromises. A cantilevered stock link 4Runner properly set up would still net some decent numbers, but driveshaft hitting the gas tank and also pan hard bar movement on full droop are big road blocks. Plus the coils are going to fall out at some point.

i havent seen any 4runner with long travel rear at all..
im planning on putting coilovers on back with custom links in the stock locations, nothing too crazy just a better ride.

 

thats what im hoping to do also, something to help the ride a bit but not go crazy, i still want to enjoy the space it has

 

exactly, cutting into the cargo area just opens the door to more crazy stuff
