    You are absolutely right, it’s a matter of personal preference and I love the simplicity of a 4runner too. Especially the 2020 year when they added new center column and Toyota sense, I find myself using adaptive cruise control a lot. Some people better off with a bmw or Tesla 4runner is not for everyone

    There are two camps of 4Runners owners. Those who lament it's archaic design, and those who got tired of repairing their Chevys and Fords and appreciate it. Do I want more power like my EcoBoost? Yep. Oh wait, Ford was in the dealership 6 times in 1.75 years of ownership.

    Chevy, 6 years, 8 dealership visits, one was to replace the garbage 6L60E @ 68,000 miles.

    I agree, the 4Runner can be slow and get crap MPG, but since 2016 the only time that thing went back to the dealer was for the free oil change and the Takata airbag recall.

    It's slow, but if you go into the middle of nowhere, it's nice to worry about everything else but the thing that will get you out of there.

    I realize not everyone is doing that with their vehicles, but when we went to Big Bend NP, you drive for 100+ miles to do black gap road. Bring extra water, fuel, and you better not break down. No one is coming for you.

    At least with the Cement Pro they have been fetching more than original MSRP. Not may others can hold that crown. Although Toyota will sour those grapes by putting it on the 21 trail

    This is one color I will not be moving up to. And if Toyota decides on another different color it won’t be happening. I made my move from my 17 White Pro to my 2020 AG Pro for the extra upgrades which I should not have to mention. If anyone know Toyota’s then they will know the difference. I don’t care if Toyota throws in a supposedly better transmission down the road. There is a real big reason why I won’t move up to a new Pro. Just paid mine off today. I hate payments.

    Oh, you mean the truck with full lockers, a 4:1 low range, real 33" AT tires (with easy room for upsizing), a choice of 3 engines and 2 transmissions, an interior designed in this millennium? That Rubicon?

    I don't have a problem with the 4Runner- I love mine. I have a problem with there being almost zero capability difference between the SR5 and the Pro, yet charging the price of a Honda Civic for the badge. It's brilliant marketing and profiteering though, no doubt.

    Regarding the price/value... I paid just under $37k for an SR5 with a couple of options. I thought it was fair. Then my buddy shows up with his new 2020 Honda Pilot AWD EX loaded with leather, 3rd row seating, awesome nav system, heated seats, and all the bells and whistles for $37k through Costco buying program.

    Yeah, I know my 4Runner is much more capable off-road and a great vehicle for my needs, but I was blown away by the serious increase in goodies and luxury for the same price. And the Pilot is no slouch when it comes to reliability and resale, either.

    The new Ford Bronco Black Diamond edition comes in with a standard price of $36k and has a ton more off-road features than the SR5.

    except all those options and engines are garbage. Who cares if it’s faster or has bigger tires or more options when it’s gotta be serviced and repaired regularly. The only thing worthwhile on a Jeep is the badging and those lockers.

    The 3.6 is actually a decent engine for a FCA. It's not a decent engine for Toyota standards, but you could do worse. It's just not powerful, so no better than the Toyota 4.0.

    Correct. I've owned two Pentastar 3.6s. Never had a problem with either one. It's a solid engine.

    Look at previous data. 3rd gens are fire. 4th gens are solid (with V8s even more), and 5th Gens do very well. A 6th gen is good for people with disposable income, but much like Land Cruisers with 70k miles on them, they are now approaching reasonable prices that the people who want to offroad them are able to aquire them at. Their soccer / grocery hauling days are coming to a close, and they are finally using that 4LO.

    I don't see 5th gen taking a huge price dump when 6th come out, especially if they use something like the 3.5L motor like they did in the Tacoma 3rd Gens. That caused a run on the 2nd Gens in the 2015 MY and most of my friends hold on it their 2nd Gens.

    I agree the 2nd Gen in the Tacoma is the best. If I could have I would have kept my 15 TRD sport but I traded it in on my 17 4runner Pro. I even have Toyota salesman tell me Toyota should have not put that 3.5 in the Tacoma. There are a lot that hate it. Same thing can happen on the 6gen 4runner depending what Toyota does.

    Obviously 4Runners will always hold value, I’m more curious to see if the 6th gen stops 60,000 mile pros from being listed for the same price as new.

    And then consider that people are preparing to pay $15K above that for essentially the same truck.

    As for the Bronco, I anticipate that those will be marked up for quite some time after release. I think you'll have to wait a while before they become sensible. Dealers are adding $10K to the new plug-in Rav4 for Pete's sake. $10K is a lot of gallons of gas.

    That's irrespective of the point. The point is that there's a vast difference between the capability of the base model Wrangler and the Rubicon. Same with the Raptor compared to a base F150.

    The Pro is the same truck as the Offroad Premium. The only functional differences are slightly more aggressive tires and some mid tier shocks. Somehow that's all Toyota has needed to convince buyers that the Pro is some kind of top-of-the-line Rubicon fighter, and it's nowhere close to that. You can admire Toyota for their business acumen, or lament their laziness. I'm somewhere in the middle.

    I come from the Jeep world for 15 years. Some of what you say is valid but they do the very same thing! For 95% of off roading we all do the Jeep sport does just as well as the rubicon. I have had both and just traded in a 2020 Rubicon for my Pro. It’s that 5% of off roading where the rubicon shines and does things the sport can’t do over time. It’s the same with 4R in my option. I don’t think the Pro offers a ton over the SR5 for most people doing the trails we do but to act like there is little difference is a stretch. It’s the same as Jeep in my opinion and the price difference is the same. The pro can’t do what my rubicon could but I didn’t need all that which is why I came to the Pro.

    You may not NEED the extra capability, that’s beside the point. It’s the fact that you’re getting more capability when you pay more money.

    My guess is yes. It will be the last gen to not be a hybrid and I think the resale crowd that wants to build overlanders and crawlers won’t necessarily wanna deal with hybrid drivetrains.

    6th gens won't be exclusively hybrid.

    There will certainly be a hybrid option, but there will be an ICE option as well.

    What ICE it comes with is the big question.
