    He all,

Here to hopefully talk myself into a 4R. I,m 55 years old, and have some adventure trips under my belt having ridden my motorcycle to places like Tuktoyaktuk and Dead Horse (Dalton Hwy and Dempster Hwy in 2018, among others.

Now my gal wants me to show here these same places, so Im considering trading up the Outback for a 4R to build up for such types of trips.

Count on me to be the guy that asks all the newbee questions. You have been warned.....

Hey R1250GSTIM, welcome from Canada! I’ve lived in the Yukon, and driven the Dempster, Dalton, Canol, etc, but never to Tuktoyaktuk, so that’s my next trip as soon as Covid dies down. We were supposed to go this summer and planned to travel up the west coast using the Alaska Marine Highway to Skagway. Unless things change dramatically, we won’t be going in any ferries any time soon, but may drive up there in 2021. It’s a trip of a lifetime, one of the most dramatic highways in the world, I think.
A 4 Runner is a great choice for a trip like that because it’s so tough and reliable. Easy to fix too, if something goes wrong.

I really enjoyed Canol, it gets zero love from adventure folks for some reason. Doesn't dead end in the Arctic Ocean, maybe?

Sounds like a great trip. To be honest the "Dramatic" part of the Dempster Hwy ends at Inuvik. From there to Tuk is arctic tundra exactly the same as it is North of Atiquin Pass on the Dalton, and infinately rougher. That said, I totally understand your desire to get to TUK. There is a very cool spot to camp (not on the ground) for the night at the farthest reach of TUK. Carry enough gas to make the round trip back to Inuvik. Locating gas in Tuk is sketchy at best. At least it was in '18 but, then again, I rolled in in bright sun at midnight, everyone asleep, and turned around and rode back to Inuvik to pitch tent, and that was the first year it was open to get there so it might be a bit easier to find fuel now.

Cool, I'll check that out. Edit, reading it now. Very nice!

I'm formerly from Tuscarawas County (Uhrichsville), just down 77 from you.

I'm big into ADV bikes... I think you'll find the 4Runner to be a 4 wheeled GSA... without final drive or Canbus issues!! We've done Alaska twice in our 17 and it was a great vehicle to travel in / with.
