Right rear axle leak/repair

    Hey guys I have 2000 4Runner Sr5 4wd. Right rear seal and bearing was fixed exactly a year and 2 months ago. Had a buddy of mine replace the seal and when he remove the axle this is what he saw? How and why would this happen?

    That's odd? Looks like a deliberate (albeit sloppy) cut; not sure of anything else that would have left a gouge like that? It's like someone took a cutoff wheel to it for some reason.

    Yeah man I was thinking the same thing? Why would the shop make a cut like that for?
