Hello all you beautiful 4RnR boys and girls!
I'm in the process of embarking on the on-off road voyage in what I've come to conclude is among the best vehicle lines ever created. I'm cautiously excited and I've come to seek some wisdom. My current budget is between $15-20k and I'm not a rich man--I can upgrade with time. I'm handy with a wrench and other tools, but don't have a lift in my garage. The 4RnR I'm looking for is one that will serve as a part-time handy-man tool/material hauler, will haul my small fishing boat, haul a small toy hauler and see occasional off-road use. I'm married to the idea of a 6-cyl or 8-cyl engine and like the idea of a mild lift. Also, I live in an urban area, but plan to do some long distance highway travel while having a reliable daily driver--no kids, no Uber, no BS. Just want to make a smart decision on a truck I plan to own for a long time. About me... Handy man and property manager (former corporate mechanical engineer) with a desire for more independent living/working. Single and no spring chicken. I enjoy comfort, but I'm no candy-ass. I looked at crew cab Tacos, but I like leather seats and want a seat warmer. I'd appreciate advice on purchase. Which gen? Engine? Rust issues (I'm in the Mid-West)? At this point, a automatic (I'm an amputee so manual is not an option) and tow package would be preferred. I'm always open to quality aftermarket options. I realize this may not be the best time buy, but your expert guidance would be GREATLY appreciated as I plan to purchase within the next few months. Looking forward to hearing from you! Much thanks!

To clarify, not sure whether or not to buy the newest within my budget, or buy an older model and rebuild/upgrade? Thanks, again!
