Hello I have read a ton of these posts. I’m looking to give my 2016 4Runner a little lift. It’s time at 70k to replace shocks and struts. I also just bought a 20ft camper for traveling for work. It’s 3500#. I already know I don’t wanna level it I like the original rake. So here’s what I’m looking at. Billstien has a full kit with rear coils. My question is should I get the heavier coils and what should I set it at in the fronts to get the lift and keep the rake? Any help is appreciated.

I would definitely recommend the heavy coils. I have the 1.5", 400# coils and I only have about 200# of cargo right now and no complaints about the ride. My fronts are set for 2.3" lift and I still have a slight rake.

How often will you be pulling a camper, and what sort of tongue weight does it have?

If it's just a few weekends here and there thru the summer, air bags might not be a bad idea to support the weight when you need it.

If you're doing a long road trip or will be using it all the time, then choosing the right springs to support the added weight with some lift is the best idea.

I also suggest keeping factory rake for those who tow, so that when you do load up, you hopefully won't end up with reverse rake.

To ADD (continue?) this thread... I TOO am looking at a smallish(3500#) camper It would only be OCCASIONAL. But I do NOT like the current Rake, ever. Could someone confirm, that getting Airbags in the REAR(for support when loaded, and Levelling when Unloaded) - Combined with Bilstein 5100 set to max, in Front... Would this setup be the way to go - for what I am trying to achieve?
1 - when Unloaded - deflate bags to stay level with slightly uplifted Front.
2 - when LOADED - inflate bags to Keep level, again, with slightly lifted Front.

this would be first 'major' mod on my 07, 2wd, 4.0L.

    Thanks for the expert advices.

Airbags shouldn't provide you any lift when deflated down to recommended unloaded pressure (3-4psi). They might (i stress might) give you 1/2" when loaded at 35psi. They are only secondary support and really shouldn't be part of the consideration when deciding on a lift/level combination. You need rake. Airbags and weight distribution hitch will greatly help but I expect you will still be driving around nose high which can be dangerous.
