Greetings everyone, when I bought my 2001 4runner it did not come with fog lights, just the turn signal lamps in the valance. I've replaced my entire front end except for the grille. The new valance installed with fog lights and wires connected and a new turn signal replaced with the fog light switch on it. But the fog lights will not come on, any suggestions?

Since your rig didn't originally have the fog lights I'm assuming it just had a blank spot in the dash for the switch. Did you add a switch or wire them to your headlights?

Well when I removed the front bumper and valance I noticed that there was a wire just hanging there wasn't being used. I replaced my turn signal switch that did not have the fog light option. When I installed the new front end I connected the wires that were hanging there to my new fog lights. I assumed that they would work, so are you saying that wire is not a live wire and that's why they aren't coming on?

I have a factory fog light switch on my dash right next to the clutch bypass button. My fogs have never come on with the headlight switch, only with the actual fog light switch. It wouldnt be hard to wire your fog lights to your headlights though so they came on with the headlights. I have no idea if that wire is hot or not.

4scooter19, Pretty sure the 2001 is different than your car and just uses the stalk. 2001-2002 is really very different in a lot of ways.

I have a 2002 and don't have fogs either...but I looked into retrofitting it at some point but never did.

Did you check the fuse panel? Missing fuse? Seems to me I remember something about that.

I went to toyota and purchased the relay that was missing for the fogs under the hood and put a fuse in the box inside cab. Still no fog lights, gonna have to double check wiring connection to see if I'm getting any juice.

Sounds like you have all the pieces. Fogs, steering column stalk and relay. You'll have to track down the power issue.

Did you get the stalk from Toyota? The cheap ones on Amazon and Ebay, have issues if you read the reviews.

Kind of wish I had done mine. I just replaced my column switch a short time ago.

I'll probably order from Toyota if I have the same results then I'll return it. Thanks for the help and the link.

I had heard of both bulbs being bad, but when non-working fogs were the first head-scratching problem I ran into in getting my '00 up and running, I spent a weekend checking relays and fuses and chasing wiring (surely not, so simple? hadn't worked for years), but yes - DUHhhh. Sometimes we forget the simple stuff. But changing the bulbs is a pain, check for videos.

Mine stopped working when I put in LED headlights. Not sure why... But do you have halogens or LEDs?

many videos on web about changing out factory bulbs or replacing with LEDs or halogens, watch them, things are a PIMA to replace, but patience goes a long way.
