Not much, just a couple of bulbs

We have only had our '20 ORP for a week, and one of the little things were to put led bulbs in for the map lights. Night and day difference! Slowly I'll be replacing more of the interior lights with led's.

 

At another member's suggestion, I ordered a set of these:

Inexpensive, and a major improvement on all interior lights, door puddle lights, and the rear license plate lights. Can you spend more for better lighting? Absolutely. I'm not lighting up a stadium, though, I just wanted better interior lights.

 

I did that LED interior light swap a few months ago and really like it. Great improvement for a little bit of money.

 

I guess I'm easily influenced - just picked up the Autogine LEDs. Thanks Gary

Same story here - I saw a member's post, ordered within a few minutes.

FYI, ignore the instructions stating the glove box bulb can be swapped. It's not accessible without taking the dash apart, and it's not even the same type of bulb socket. Save the glove box led bulb for a spare.

Easy peasy job, good luck with the install. Couple of pointers I learned, some by searching, some by experience.

On the main dome light, you are removing the lens from the outside plastic frame. At first, I thought the whole thing comes out, but no, just the middle lens. it snaps out of the plastic frame.

On the door puddle lights, I saw two ways to swap the bulb once you have the light out of the door. 1) Take the whole thing apart (not necessary) and 2) snap off the back bulb cover (what I did) - it isn't a big deal. Also, I read later on, long after I was done, to be careful when plugging in the LED bulbs on the door puddle lights. You don't want to bend the socket prongs together (if you are doing this with the battery still connected), because with the lights on (door open), you could cause a short if those prongs touch. If you're careful, it's not an issue.

 

Yes. Do be careful with the door puddle lights. Do not install bulbs blindly. Take the whole assembly out and unplug the power connector. Take apart the cover, you’ll figure it out. You want to see exactly where you are inserting the bulb so pins don’t get smashed and cause a short. People have inserted bulbs while the door was open, the circuit hot, and they shorted pins. That circuit is driven directly from the Main Body ECU and it is not fused (at least on pre-2020s). They wind up burning out a driver circuit in the ECU and destroying it. An expensive mistake for being in a hurry.

PS: Test each LED before installing it with a 9 voltage flashlight-type battery.

 

Oh boy, reading this post install worries me. I definitely disassembled the entire puddle door light from the power source and took it apart to install, felt that was easier and the bulb was so damn hot so seemed less risk to do it that way. The only ones I struggled with were the “vanity mirror lights” - felt sketchy ripped the assembly out of the upholstery. I have several extra leds.. I dont think the SR5 has side mirror puddle lights?

 

I had the mirror puddle light led bulbs left over also. My Off Road does not have mirror puddle lights either. The vanity mirror lights were the hardest to remove, but came out with some effort.
