    Hi everyone,

Looking for some input. My buddy just joined the 5th gen club and he's looking for the most cost effective way to get a 3" lift. His 4runner has KDSS, mine doesn't. I ended up going with the Toytec Boss Performance lift, but he doesn't have that budget so I need some help!

I've always heard that the OME lifts or Bilstein lifts are the cheapest, but I'm unsure how those fit with KDSS as I know this can limit selection with lift kits. I've seen combos of Bilstein shocks w/ OME coilovers. Anyone have experience with this combo?

His max budget is around $1200 pre installation, and he'd like a 3" lift. Any direction would be great!

Will that level out correctly? I know stock comes with rake, but can't remember the difference. He wants to fit 285's in there.

It does level it somewhat, with a slight rake still. Plenty of 4R owners run 285s with this kit. The 285s fitting is more affected by the wheel offset/backspacing & tires used than the lift.

true somewhat, but debatable. The lift is necessary for 285's if you're offroading because of all the wheel movement. I do agree that offset/backspacing can largely effect this. I've got 285 w/ 3" lift, but my rims have -38 offset causing them to rub. Had to do a BMC

Having the appropriate UCA always helps too.

I've jumped mine (not high, but tires were off the ground) with 285's and a 1.6" lift in the front and have not hit the upper wheel well liners.

I don't do full articulation rock crawling though, so have never tested that.
