86 4runner 5speed transmission help

    6" lift on 35s with front locker
    I need some help. My 4runner would not go when I put it into 4th gear just grind. So I tore my trans appart and found the part of the shaft after the 3rd gear and 4th gear are not connected. Is that normal? Sorry for the length.
