4WD on dry pavement

Last hope. I understand 4wd part time on my vehicle. BUT....all I get from dealers and other 4Runner owners is...”I don’t know”. Now. you should not drive on dry pavement unless your going straight for a short time to keep the transfer case lubed. DO NOT MAKE TURNS....
I have by mistake a few times and could feel the binding So this brings me to my question.
Why oh why when I watch 4runners on large dry boulders, in Utah or anywhere , driving in 4H or 4L .....how is it they make all kinds of turns, some more than 90 degrees ??? They are not in mud, snow, or dirt. If you can please make your reply simple. My off roading experience includes once making a 3 pt turn in my driveway where my back right tire went completely on my lawn. Don’t worry I got out of that mess.

Thank you. Just now got interested in 4runners. Had five Audi’s in a row and finally realized after many recalls it was time to move on.

My guess would be because you’re “slow” going over the boulders, you’re not going 10+mph on boulders. I think the issue is when you’re going at a normal speed limit and attempt the turn is when the binding would happen, not from a dead stop or slow 2-3mph rock crawling. That would be my best guess though.

I don't "exercise" my 4wd-H in the summer unless I use dirt or gravel road. Even driving straight on pavement in part time 4wd puts a strain on diff and driveshafts. If you must do it, find gravel road and go for 6-10 miles.
