Just picked up some Cooper Evo MTs for super cheap at WallyWorld. I went with stock size because I’m not prepared to cut into Rhonda just yet. The only tire I could find in 275/70r17 were K02s and I didn’t want to fork out that kind of money just yet. I have an OME 3 inch lift in the cart as we speak. Is this a good entry into modifications or am I on the wrong track? I’ll have a little more freedom with tire size after the lift but the coopers were a price I could live with.

Let us know how you like them. I'm looking to do tires in a few months if all goes well. I'm debating between something like the Falken at3w's or some kind of MT. I'm nervous about the road manners of the MT's, though.

Awesome! I looked at that lift, but I didn't want to go that high. I'm doing a Bilstein setup that I pieced together next Saturday.

Looking forward to seeing pictures when you get it installed! OME is good stuff!

I have about 100 miles on the new tires. There are definitely more noticeable than the oem ATs but it’s not bad. I feel like I’m driving a rig and I like it. The noise with these particular tires isn’t bad at all either. You can hear a slight whir if you’re on the HW with the windows down but nothing with the windows up. Off-road they are superb. It’ll take quite a bit more to get stuck now. They completely change the look of your vehicle as well. I couldn’t be happier with these tires if I’m being honest.

The look great! I too noticed the good price at Wallyworld, am tempted by them too.

After running them a few months, do you have any updates? How's your mileage been effected, wear, etc?

    Thanks!

Couldn't help myself and placed an order for 285/70/17s @$161. My original plan was to put 15kmiles On the stock tires before upgrading. Oh well

I just ordered some as well but won't be mounting them for another 3 months. I still have the stock set of Dunlops sitting in my shed that need sold. 1000 miles on them and hopefully going to be able to get $300 out of them on Craigslist here soon.

Nice. You got 285/70/17s as well? My situation is similar to yours. Tires should be here on Monday but won't get them installed for at least a month. The lift kit should be here in 3 weeks hopefully and I want to put another 500miles on the car after getting the lift kit installed and then install the Coppers and do the alignment.

Interested in the Cooper MTs as well. With the 285/70/17s, would those fit with the Eibach pro truck lift I have on my 2018 SR5? For that size and price from Walmart, it is tempting to get it but only if it will fit my vehicle as is.

New Coopers arrived and they are impressive in real life. Can't wait to get them installed but trying to hold out until closer to winter.

    They look great!

Why are you waiting for winter? I wouldn't expect those to be very good in snow.

Has anyone been using these for a daily driver? Ant comments?

This guy thought they were great, so I'm hoping they perform well for me as well...

    https://trail4runner.com/2020/05/10/cooper-evolution-mt-first-look-review/

Aired way down to a 12-14 psi, the floatation on these tires is unbelievable. We were driving through 1.5′ – 2′ drifts keeping up with SAS built 1st gens and JKs on 37s. Literally, I have never felt more capable and confident in my truck until now. Especially in terms of keeping up with the big boys. We pushed through everything from fresh powder to tight-packed snowbanks, to drifts and slushy patches. This tread pattern kicks ass in the snow, especially deep drifts, powder, and making fresh lines.

It’s also a studdable tire so if you are in a climate calling for studs, this is a great option for you. Growing up in Quincy, CA – all of my parent’s trucks had studded tires. They make a huge difference, especially when you’re hitting steep grades and shaded portions of the road where ice freezes corner-patches.

All in all I would give this tire an A+ or 10/10 in the snow category for a mud terrain.

Most mud terrains are not typically great in the snow, they tend to fill up with snow instead of ejecting it. With that said, the Cooper Evo MTs still threw snow left and right. Maybe it’s their “stone ejector” or “mud slinger” design. Whatever it is, the EVO MT does quite well when it comes to self-cleaning lugs in the snow.

I bought a set of the Milestar Patagonia MTs for a half-ton pickup and discovered that they were awesome in the snow. Of course, I had them siped before getting them installed, so that probably helped quite a bit.

Well, damn! That is impressive! I usually don't expect MT's to be good in rain or snow. Cooper does have a great reputation. I"m looking forward to hearing your thoughts once you get some miles on them.

I have a few hundred miles on them and only one trip in a minor snow storm and only one foray into some light mud. Been mostly commuting miles on the highway.

The only negative I have found is the noise. I haven't ran a dedicated mud tire in years, so not sure how loud they are compared to other MTs, but they are definitely noticeable compared to the previous aggressive ATs. It's not annoyingly loud, to me, but it's definitely there.

The rest of the experience has been great. They ride smoother than the previous tires with a softer ride, without being squishy feeling.

Mud performance was very good. Took a back country farm road that gets greasy in the rain and didn't even put it in 4wd. I simply could not get stuck.

    Yx-wOlLyQO6npI0SVgHiRw.jpg

In snow, they did very well. We got a couple of inches of wet, slimy snow with very poor traction and I was able to get around fine in 2wd with minimal slippage. But, I did have my set siped, which is said to help immensely.

    IMG_20201023_153758385_HDR.jpg

    46G1XlimTEy3AIERE_G7yg.jpg

This new Chevy 4x4 with OEM tires couldn't make it up this hill by my house and actually slid backwards and off the road and took out a sign. I was able to drive past him in 2wd with no slipping...

    IMG_20201023_153601420.jpg

So, pretty happy with the tires so far. The drive into town today was in a downpour with lots of standing water on the road and I experienced no hydroplaning. We're supposed to get more snow starting this weekend, so I'll hopefully have more experience with them soon.

I'll add my experience here too with the Evo MT's. Had them for almost 1000 miles and been offroad twice. Positives are that they are awesome offroad and ride decent for a MT. I played around with PSI and 37-38 seem to be the sweet spot on the road but I'll be keeping an eye on wear and rotate every 3 or 4k. Offroad i went all the way down 18PSI and they gripped very nicely.

Negatives are that MPGs went from bad to worse which is true with any e-load MT, and that they are loud. I had KM2s on my old 4runner and these seem louder to me than the KM2s. It's possible that my old gen1 was just louder overall and it drowned out the noise coming from the tires but these are still pretty loud.

How bad in MPG? I just checked them out at my local discount tire and they look good but they only have them in 265/70/17 or 285/70/17. I am considering going up to 285 but I’m going to see how they fit with my Eibach pro truck lift.

I went with the Daystar 2.5" up front and 1.5" rear. I also did minor fender trimming and used a heat gun to push the mud flaps back a little. No rubbing at all.

My computer mileage went from 18 to 16 when the tires went on, but then I checked actual odometer and fuel useage and my actual mileage is 18.75.

Ended up getting 285/70/17s for the Cooper MTs today. So far I haven’t seen any sign of rubbing but we’ll see once I hit the trails with them. And since there aren’t many reviews out there on these yet, I’ll make sure to put in my experiences with them as I add miles.
