I think the big contender will be the Cyber Truck, not the Rivian.

Well, the Bronco is available with a third pedal, while the T4R hasn’t been since 2002 (at least in America)...

Elon is a brilliant man; however Rivian was started by ex-Tesla employees (so I was told)...

Except that Sasquatch is best offroad package, and that package isn't available on the models with a stick shift. Go figure.

"The 2021 Ford Bronco's cool and unusual seven-speed manual transmission (with a "dogleg" shift pattern that includes a crawler gear at the bottom left position and six, typically placed, forward gears for day-to-day driving), is the sort of thing that gets our attention. For one, there's no denying the extra level of connection you get from driving a manual transmission vehicle—if you get it, you get it. And that crawler gear, combined with the Bronco's robust four-wheel-drive system's two-speed transfer case and various off-road driving modes, should provide some incredible low-speed control over any really technical stuff. But if you want it with the Sasquatch package, then, for now, you're out of luck.

Ford states the Sasquatch package will only be available with the SUV's optional 10-speed automatic transmission. That's a fine gearbox, but it's disappointing that Ford is making consumers choose between the manual transmission and the best factory-backed off-road kit."

Definitely a big mistake. Which Ford says it might correct if there’s enough demand.

I'm an old Ford fanatic from my musclecar days. Three new ford vehicles in 5 years of commuting 150 miles a day cured me of that. All three had transmission issues within 50k miles. All three had the Sync system that worked for a month then crapped out. All three were comfortable and looked awesome, with the last one traded in at 92k miles and a bad transmission and CV joints.

I love my 4Runner. It is perfect for my short commute and monthly trips into the woods. In fact, I'm taking it huckleberry picking tomorrow on some old logging roads up in the mountains. With upgraded tires, it is capable of just about anywhere I need to go.

That said, I LOVE the new Bronco! But, I just don't trust Ford. For my next vehicle, I really need a 3/4-ton 4x4 extracab pickup so I can tow my elderly dad's camper and boat that he said I can borrow anytime. But I figure I will probably go with a Tundra since I have gotten spoiled by simply putting in gas and doing routine maintenance rather than going to the dealer every few months for crap going wrong.

I watched a video comparison of Bronco, Wrangler, and 4 Runner recently on You Tube. Bronco and Wrangler beat the 4 Runner on just about every criteria they used. But that’s on paper. There was no criteria for reliability. It reminded me of the guys in the new Jeep that I met on a trail that had a leaking power steering pump. That’s the the kind of hassle you don’t need when you’re miles from a highway and roadside assistance.

My turn! I'm not brand bashing or bad mouthing anyone's choice of vehicle. But.. I really think and have always felt that the jeep looks, feels, and drives strangely. Looking at the new Bronco I get the same feeling. I'm sure it will be a fine vehicle yet it won't be a 4 Runner with real doors and practically soundproof cabin that keeps the road dust and noise at bay. The overall quality construction of our 4 Runners is hard to beat. No vehicle is perfect for sure but Toyota quality is right up there. Of course the disclaimer here is that I would certainly like to at least try the new Bronco,no thanks on the Jeep. For what it's worth,I'm old enough to not be ashamed of riding in a quality vehicle off-road with the AC going and some adult music on the stereo. Thus endeth the sermon. Thank you:sadviolin:

Obviously they did not compare high speed offroading. After building an FJC and a JK wrangler they are virtually the same at all things, except the FJ was far better at higher speed offroad, better on the road, and quieter.

My Dad was a Ford guy through and through but I have always had Toyota's as my primary vehicles. I wouldn't be against buying another brand if it's something really cool that I wanted. The Bronco has got my interest a little but just bought a 2020 4Runner so that will be some years down the line.

They never consider higher speed offroading. Almost no one does, to be honest.

Comparisons always seem to directed towards the Moab crowd for some reason.

Maybe that's what the majority of what the market does? I don't know. It's not the type of offroading that's popular in my region.

A lot of high speed of roading in Socal desert. I've never been into it myself. Open desert is for my Husky. Slow, mountain trails in the Eastern Sierra is where I wheel to remote camp sites.

True dat! I’m in a Subaru Forester now, lots of road and wind noise. Sounds like I’m driving with a window down. Can’t wait to trade it in for the next generation 4Runner. Hopefully Toyota doesn’t get cheap and skimp on sound deadening materials.

True, there is only one Moab. I'll be going there the end of September for my 7th time. But there are many places where you can go fast around the country. Living in Las Vegas and Utah I get to do both, so I'm selling my Jeep and going back to Toyota so I can do that.

Same. I actually REALLY wanted a JLU, but they were just too spendy, and too new to have used examples outt here. I decided to really look at my priorities and wants vs. needs, and I reluctantly realized the T4R was prob the better I fit. I found my 13 TE used last year for about half what a new one or JLU would have cost.

After this, I doubt I'll ever be motivated to buy another Toyota.

If I'm brand loyal to anything, it's Jeeps and classic GM cars/trucks. (I loved my old ZJ Grand Cherokee, and my first vehicle was a squarebody Chevy pickup, and I've also owned a string of F-Bodies).

I still hope to own a JLUR one day. Maybe when everyone's jumped ship to the Bronco the resale will be lower, haha.

Most of the photos out there show the Bronco with the Sasquatch package which is about a 3” lift and 35” tires. It looks cool, and the vehicle proportions are what you’d expect. However, when you see the Bronco on a standard suspension with standard tires, it looks out of scale with itself, sort of top heavy. Definitely ugly. At least stock Tacos and 4 Runners look ok. They look best with mild lifts, but they’re ok stock. Not the Bronco. Check it out.

I just took my girlfriend and her parents out huckleberry picking in the mountains on extremely dry, rough, and dusty roads. We did 100 miles, with 50 of them on USFS roads. It was 90 degrees out. We went everywhere we needed to go in comfort with no dust, no breakdowns, and no worries. We drove down a couple of roads/trails where we were scraping brush and narrowly made it through. The new Bronco is 4" wider than my 4Runner. No bueno. The dust was so fine that it coated the inside of my door jambs. If there would have been a leak, it would have been a miserable day.

I drove a similar route with my brother last year in his Jeep and at the end of the day, was completely worn out, covered in dirt, sweaty, and we had to do a minor repair to the exhaust.

For sure, MountainMan, similar experience here in Canada. Up north on gravel roads we used to use duct tape to seal the doors on Suburbans to keep the dust out and drove with windows closed and the fan on high to pressurize the cabin. It’s a new era when you’re in a Toyota!

Not sure if it’s mainly due to the factory rack and exhaust on my Pro, but the wind / road noise / loud cabin in my 2020 is EASILY my least favorite thing about it.

My tundra with exhaust and on 33’s is like a coffin comparatively.

My wife likes to listen to classical music as we cruise on the highway, and even with K02s, and a 4Runner roof rack our 2018 ORP is quiet and serene. With the windows open at high speed it’s noisy for sure.
